While that may be the case, heart conditions aren't something that just pop up out of nowhere. I find it really hard to believe there weren't any signs before now of this.

Most people don't train regularly inside the same facility as a (supposed to be) world class medical/training staff.

I understand your line of thinking but those people aren't cardiologist. They may specialize in football type injuries and have a regular doctor that oversees the medical staff. They aren't out there doing stress tests and 12 leads

Nah, a medical specialist is a medical specialist. If you know how to treat a sprained ankle then you should also be an expert on heart conditions. Medicine is a completely figured out field anyway. /s

For his sake, I hope he's okay. For the fans sake though, I wish they would have signed Bennie Logan or Johnathan Hankins this offseason.

Prayers for the big guy! Having to deal with this after losing his mother in less than a year. Hopefully he can continue playing as I think that would help him tremendously from an emotional state of mind by being able to be with his guys.

Do you really need a vascular system to play football?

I don't think that is the case if he retires for medical reasons which I would imagine that he would walk away and never play again.

He will get a medical release.

It fits the pattern.

1. Sign with New Orleans.
2. Get contract.
3 or 4. Either immediately get hurt or suffer from some career ending bullshite - or completely suck arse.

From someone who works in a Cath Lab, this is true. A lot of people we do heart caths on, show zero symptoms and end up having blockages throughout different vessels. I'm not sure what they have said Fairley has, but whatever it is, is most likely saving his life

There's a good chance that, as long as he's healthy, Lattimore practically doesn't leave the field next season. Allen would have more difficulty seeing the field. Rankins looked very capable rushing the QB in limited time last season. You probably can't play both Allen and Rankins on early downs. Jordan can (and has successfully) shift inside on 3rd and 5+.

It is important to have a good rotation of DT's, and it's big having two good pass rushing DT's on 3rd down, but taking Allen over Lattimore would have been an awful decision at the time, and still would have been a bad one even if we knew that Fairley was done for (which we still don't). I get that Allen was at one point an expected top 3 pick, but many thought Lattimore would be a top 5 pick.
