Multiple sources have said both the team and player would like to stick together moving forward. Fairley likes playing in New Orleans, which is close to his hometown of Mobile, Ala., and grew fond of coach Sean Payton. The organization had no issues with Fairley last season and realizes he was a key component of the defense.

He could be seeking something in the range of $9.5 million. That would put him above Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford, who has an average annual value of $9 million and had 4 ½ sacks and eight quarterback hits (Fairley had 22), but below San Diego’s Corey Liuget, who has an average annual value of $10.25 million and has recorded three sacks over the last two seasons. Fairley recorded 6 ½ sacks last season, during a season in which he spent some time playing on the nose in three-man fronts, and had nearly 50 other pressures. He was, by any account, one of the better defensive tackles in the NFL.

I'd be ok with that. Loomis will backload the shite out of the contract, so we can part ways with him in the 3rd or 4th year if we want to...without taking a big dead money hit.

I feel like this contract should be a no brainer. If anything put a crap load of incentives in it i case he gets lazy like he has in the past

Saints gave him a prove-it deal. He proved it. Pay the man the salary his production dictates. Pretty simple decision. Its not like we are paying him as a free agent without knowing anything about him.

Very badly considering that Rankins & Onyemata aren't close to being a finished product yet. If 9.5mil is what it takes, then I say give it to him.

I'm confident that Rankins will be a stud. The D-line looked so much better with him playing.

Cam, Fairley and Rankins is a nice trio. Bring Fairley back, sign or draft another pass rusher.

Also, Davison is stout vs. the run. Hopefully Kikaha comes back fully healthy and helps provide a legit pass rush. Onyemata is still a couple of years away most likely. Tons of potential in the near future.

Could be an elite D-Line if we hit on a DE in the 1st. Pretty impressive considering that all we had was Cam going into the 2016 offseason. The FO has massively improved our D-Line and WR's in a very short amount of time. Hopefully they do the same with LB & CB next.

im down. Then draft solomon thomas. Then we have one of the best Dline's in football. Best "young" Dline as well.

Signing him long term makes me nervous too. I remember Charles Grant and the Grady Jackson bullshite.

But I also feel like we need some stability and letting guys walk after a year or two isn't always the best move??

With the way Loomis does contracts...we would really only be forced to keep him 2 years. After that the dead money wouldn't be that big of a blow. Especially that 4th year.

We really don't have a choice though. We're most likely screwed without him in 2017.

We need to be all in for 2017 with Drew's comments after the season

I think it's just a combination of Fairleys history and the Saints bad luck with some Dline guys contracts in the past.

He did good last year except the penalties in the Chiefs game. I want to say he did a cheap move in the Lions game too but maybe not. His actual performance on the field isn't the problem it's just he can be a fricking dumb arse sometimes.
