I'd love to be able to trade back 6 to 8 spots and still get Bennett from UTk. What would be compensation for moving back that far? A 3rd, 4th?

Every year Saints fans want to trade back and get extra picks. And every year Loomis either stays still or moves up.

Didn't Loomis say something a year or two ago about him not believing in trading back or something like that? I could be wrong but I thought I read something along those lines.

My bad, yes I meant Barnett. Any team desperate to move up to snag one of the QBs?

I'd rather move up and get Allen, Adams, or if we resign Fairley, sign Ingram (DE), and a good guard draft Fournette.

I know but just for fun what would be the compensation most likely. An extra 3rd could be used on a quality guard.

Zona coming up from 13 for a future qb to groom makes sense.

I usually hate to move up but would be stoked if we did it for Allen this year.

My dream scenario is that two wide receivers, two running backs, and two qb's (not Watson) go top 10. Then we can move back four or five spots and still get Foster or Barnett. Only players I would not trade back if there at 11 are:
1. Garrett
2. Allen
3. Adams
4. Hooker
5. Fournette

I don't remember exact but it was more that, especially in the first, you want to get your guy and good value. When you slide back it creates uncertainty and if you only have 5 players in your current "pool" and slide back 8 spots you may likely miss on all those guys and have to settle for someone from the next pool down.

Now sometimes the value can still bethere in that case, but I guess they didn't feel comfortable enough while also having a willing trade partner.

And that's the other side he discussed was that you need someone willing to trade.

The philosophy has also been to try to get target players, so they'll slide up or down to do that, but more often you'll need to go up.

So he isn't against trading back per se, but they don't intentionally seek that route unless their pool for that value pick is gone.

This team lacks depth but it also lacks impact players on the defensive side of the ball. The last two years should have been opportunities to build the team depth, but it did not happen. This shows up in special teams and after injuries, so now it's up to the FO to decide which is more important because I don't think both will happen in the draft, and I also don't see us being smart in free agency either. Waiting on history to repeat itself unfortunately.

Thanks. I couldn't remember exactly what it was, but I remembered reading something where he talked about draft strategy, trading back, etc.

Trading up is almost always a retarded move. That's why Bill Bellichick and New England trade back all the time instead and accumulate picks. It's all guesswork anyway. Scouting is NOT an exact science. The more guesses you have, the more likely you are to strike gold.

Plus, when guys are drafted later, you don't have to pay them as much. You can keep replenishing the talent on your team for cheap.

new england really hasn't had the top 13 type picks like saints have had. waters become much murkier second half of first round.

Most years I'm for it but not this one. I want as high of an impact player as possible. It's early but I'm thinking they will be able to choose among a few that would all make us happy.

6 to 8 spots= about #52 to #60 in the 2nd Rd btw

I think if the saints can get a late 1st pick from 18-20 along with that teams 2nd AND 3rd round picks in this years draft, then and only then should they trade down.

the only other scenario I can see is if there is no one left at #11 that they cant still get with a later pick, only in that case, getting another teams 1st and 2nd picks this year for our #11 would be ok.
