Payton is the one who actually brought Ireland in. He had a prior relationship with him through Bill Parcells. Those relationships go all the way back to when Parcells was the coach of the Cowboys and Payton was the Offensive coordinator. When Parcells left to go to Miami he brought Ireland along. Jeff Ireland is not here without Sean Payton

So Loomis doesn't get credit for Ireland, but he gets the blame for draft picks instead of coaches and scouting dept getting the blame?

Payton should get all the blame since he is in control of personnel

Where do you retards who think Loomis is the head of our draft and scouting departments come from?

Loomis can and should get flak for the defensive coach hirings and inability to fire Payton's friends ie McMahan and Vitt, but he isn't a pro scout. And he did get us Jeff Ireland, who has proven to be a solid choice.

But it's obvious our roster is bare and we have too much money going to our great QB, dead wood and busts. Then there are all our draft busts.

at least our great qb earns his pay unlike guys like kaep, romo who is constantly injured now, matt ryan who can't even win playoff games.. and spare me the they have stipulations.. as I said.. at least Brees earns his pay.. he has put up top 2-3 stats over the past several seasons in categories such as completion percentage, yards, and TDs. even in a down year where the man is playing through injury he puts up top stats and is as competitive as anyone.

it just always annoys me when fans complain about Brees contract when there are far worse front office decisions.. especially the horrendous drafting and other poor free agency decisions. there are far worse 100 million qbs.. it's pretty much the going rate for any starting qb these days.

the past several drafts have been ridiculously atrocious and overall not so good. there was one season in which amounted to absolutely nothing.. would have been better to just ricky williams that particular draft. i don't remember the year off-hand though.

keep complaining about brees contract though. what good would it even matter when our front office has shown they are horrific at free agency spending aside from brees.

so yes by all means lets cut brees and make more atrocious decisions and then not even have an above avg qb i'd say Brees is worth it considering how poor the decision making has been.

Go through the list. It's amazing how much the man has whiffed on picks.

Which picks did he alone make?
I really would like to know.

New Orleans Saints: GM Mickey Loomis ultimately has the final say. But coach Sean Payton has plenty of input as well, and the Saints insist they prefer a collaborative approach among Loomis, Payton and the scouting department. That collaboration used to include Chicago Bears GM Ryan Pace. And now it includes former Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland, who was hired last year to run the college scouting department. Loomis described Ireland as a "voice of reason" during last year's draft, compared to himself and Payton, both of whom have more aggressive tendencies when it comes to trading up. -- Mike Triplett

Keep that negative stuff away. Might be the last week of hope we get in 2016.
