Spears could be a cheap rotation player. I would rather go younger at each position though.

Rhodes had a good year in 2012. I'd rather him at the moment but Spears would be fine too.

I can't believe the amount of turnover at the safety position so far in free agency. 11 starting safeties have been cut. After how poorly we played on defense last year... I can't believe one of ours isn't in that boat. Not trying to start shite but just saying... that is a pretty crazy number.

I haven't seen Spears play much but 10 sacks and 3 forced fumbles over 8 years isn't exactly the type of player I hope that we are targeting at DE cost or not...

Rhodes isn't very old at 31 and just had his best season of his career. Too expensive IMO

You don't evaluate the DE position in a 3-4 by stats.

My take is this: if we can get Rhodes, Jenkins can move back to corner or maybe even to SS.

Spears can add some much needed depth at end. Right now I assume our depth there is Hicks, Jordan, and Smith. Get one more body there for a solid rotation. Keep Bunkley at NT, and bring in someone in the draft or FA for depth there.

I'd take Rhodes for sure.

Huge pass on Spears. I think Will Smith can be just as effectivei if not more in the 34 defense.

Don't forget Broughton, Mcbride, and Romeus. I know it's not much but its cheap potential.

My cousin is a Cowboy's fan and he just text me praising god that they cut Spears. Just figured I'd throw that out there.

Honestly I felt he excelled as our nickel and showed promise. Thought he could be groomed into a starter there. Then he did okay at FS under Williams, but was inconsistent. I won't even bring up last year.

or maybe even to SS.

Now this is just a horrible idea. Harper has shown himself to be a great SS except in coverage. Jenkins hasn't shown he can help in run support or that he can be great at blitzing. And he isn't that much better than Roman in coverage, especially when it comes to zone.

What he has shown is that when he is playing man against one guy he can do well. When he plays zone he always seems to make the wrong read and reacts too late. He's basically the opposite of Harper in coverage.

Honestly I think PRob and Jenkins are basically the same type of player. Both look lost in zone but have shown they can read a single receiver and react well to what they are doing.

No and Hell NO!!

Spears played 8 years for Dallas and I cannot recall one big play he ever made. Both are not worth a look. Best days are behind them.
