I was just thinking about how the Patriots are trying to play hard ball and get our 11 pick. Is it possible for us to make a deal with the steelers, who have 30 pick? They would just offer Butler a contract in exchange for our 32 and late round pick? (6-7) I would say deal with ATL at 31 but no way they deal with us to help us.

They aren't trying to get 11. That's one dumbass trying to stand out from the crowd to get clicks. EVERYONE else has said either 32 or even less.

But technically speaking the Steelers could sign him to an offer sheet and hope the Pats refuse, then trade Butler to us for 32 and some change (maybe a 5th or 6th for their trouble).

But 11 isn't an option and is NOT being asked for. Bill isn't that dumb.

Only loophole would be to trade pick 11 for a player. Then sign Butler.

Former Patriot assistant is saying that the Patriots are now asking for our 11 pick now. LINK since he's a restricted free agent he can sign with anyone as long as new england doesn't match. That team would have to give up its highest 1st round pick. Let's say a team right before our 32 pick(Steelers30 falcons31) signed Butler and traded him to us for our 32 pick and a late round pick. They would basically pick up another draft pick for switching 1 or 2 spots with us.

Pats would still have 5 days to match the offer sheet or decline

And that isn't what Micheal Lombardi was saying. Read all of his tweets, not just the headline grab

Only people saying this are New England blowhards that can't fathom the fact that Belichick and Payton have a good working relationship and have already agreed to a deal that is amicable to both parties. They also believe there's no way New England could ever make a deal that they do not come out of like bandits in an old west bank robbery.

So they're going to sign him in the 15 minutes while they're on the clock for their draft pick?
