My 2 cents.

Junior (6-2, 257) looks more like Ricky Jackson (6-2, 243) than Pat Swilling (6-3, 245).

However, Junior looks faster than Ricky which is more like Swilling. And Junior is better in pass protection than Ricky was. But Ricky was better in run stopping than Junior is. (Junior only has 55 tackles, Swilling had 172 his first four years and Ricky had 398)

The correct answer is NO. Junior Galette is not even in the same stratosphere as Rickey Jackson. RJ was every bit as good as Lawerance Taylor. They came in the league in the same year. LT had the New York press that built him into a legend while collecting 2 Super Bowls, while Rickey was just as good and just as consistent in the weak NO media market.

Rickey Jackson put up ridiculous numbers:
- Played 14 years in the NFL
- 128 career sacks
- Years with 9+ sacks - 9
- 40 Career Forced Fumbles
- Over 1100 career tackles

I really think a lot of Galette. He has developed into a very solid pass rusher and defensive leader. He is a core member of our defensive resurgence. He is definitely one of our best defensive players. Aside from similarities in physical dimensions, Junior needs to play a lot more football before this comparison can truly be made.

. . . . . And the HOF speech with the hat was classic. Pa Ho Kee!!!

Ricky was just a better all around player and a vicious tackler. I remember him hitting the lead blocker on a running play so hard the blocker caused the running back to fumble and this was at a Saints practice.

Rickey always played on the tight end side, so he couldn't just cut loose and rush the QB. He had to set the edge on the defense, keep from getting hooked by the TE, drop back in coverage AND rush the QB.

LT, great as he was, usually played opposite the TE side. I always say Rickey Jackson was the best LB of his era not named Lawrence Taylor.

Plus blocked on FG and XP attempts.

This isn't comparing career achievements but player similarities and possible projections. I'm hoping junior can end up w similar saint sack numbers

I wouldn't go comparing them yet. Rickey Jackson was in a league of his own. He did have much more help rushing the passer though.

also for Rickey Jackson,

In the NFL Record Book (at time of his retirement following 1995 season)

• [2nd] Most Opponents Fumbles Recovered, Career – 28

• [3rd] Most Sacks, Career – 128.0

• [Tied for 3rd] Most Opponents Fumbles Recovered, Season – 7 (1990)

Rickey whipped a Corvette's arse and played on Sunday.

I think Junyah could do it, too.

Rickey seemed to have an innate ability to get the sack at the most clutch times. Such a beast. I think the "quality" of the sack has to be a stat that complements the number of sacks.

The guy that said Junior Galette is better in pass coverage than Ricky Jackson was obviously never saw Ricky play. Ricky is one of the best coverage linebackers I've ever seen play!

Jr. is a good player and may become great but its yet to be determined.

I can say this for sure he certianly is not as fast off the snap or as good at snap count anticipation as Rickey was.

So for know he doesnt compare IMO

I just remember watching those games, particularly against San Fran, where the Saints would be in dire straights, and you would just be praying for a sack - and time and time again, RJ would come through. I wasn't a big Lawrence Taylor fan, so I didn't pay attention to him aside from the obvious media attention, but I don't think there is a linebacker I take in history over Jackson.
