Is it the board consensus that Williams, Swann, Moore, Crawley, Harris all suck?

Because that's how it seems with people wanting Butler and drafting a CB or Butler AND Sherman.

I understand there are injury concerns but it's not like these guys are terrible. At least no in my opinion.

I've very bullish on Crawley. I think he can be really good with more experience.

Just seems silly to me to draft another rookie who is just as unproven as the talent we already have.

Get Butler and be done with CB.

They don't suck at all really. But you have to be able to stay on the field.

We are in a precarious situation where we have a very short window left open and not enough time to develop or let alone hope some trash turns into treasure.

People seem to think we have Brees for another 7 years...

None of them suck as #2 guys (except maybe Swann? He's more nickel material). Breaux even was at the least a low end 1 before his two injuries.

But Moore is a #2 guy, and the other four are all coming off of injuries, some very major.

But we lack that sure fire top end #1 guy, and that will be hard to find in the draft (and maybe hard for a rookie to get on the field at all this year).

We can run with what we have but we will struggle greatly against the better receivers and teams with great depth.

A surefire top corner will go a long way to helping this defense.

Not a single one of them has any trade value. They suck.

They don't all suck. Some of them do. But none of them can be relied on because of injury and the fact that they have only shown brief glimpses of being effective players.

Sterling Moore is a solid nickel corner. He's been a good player for a lot of snaps. The other guys are wild cards.

Williams and Swann showed more positive than negative. Issue is health

Moore is average, he's pure depth.

Crawley and Harris had lots of ip and down

Well not counting on Williams or Swann.

The other guys are organizational depth at this point, outside of Moore who flashed.

Are you saying they are legit starters and a strength of the defense?

I wouldn't say that they suck, but they are on the shortlist of positions that need to be improved asap.

You can take project players, but it seems every player at corner is a project. Need some stability.

I guess what I'm saying is that with the addition of Butler, we don't need to spend any high draft picks on CB and shouldn't spend more money on Sherman.

DE is a much greater need.

Butler, Breaux, Williams, Moore, Swann, Crawley is much better and deeper than:

Jordan, Kikaha, Tapp, Gwachum

We need pass rushers more than CBs.

Sterling Moore

Was by far our best CB last year and was very often asked to guard the other team's top receiver and did very well in doing so. He's a surefire #2 guy who played on the outside.

True but you forgot Okafor, who is a very underrated signing. Not saying he fixes rush end at all, but we at least have him and Kikaha (and I guess Gwachum?) there.

A high impact player is still desparately needed there, but we have depth at end (plus Onyemata also plays big end to back up Jordan on the VERY rare times he comes out).

Average CBs look good when the QB is on his back of running for his life. PR is a huge need.

PJ Williams was impressive in his limited action. The only reason he didn't come back during the year is because they wanted to bring Breaux back instead. I think he's very solid depth.

Swann was really good as well his rookie year. The concussions pretty much knocked him off the map though.

Moore is alright, wouldn't mind him as nickel.

Crawley is just so raw. Special teamer/depth.

Harris never showed much.

I knew I forgot someone. If anything, though, the same argument everyone on here uses against Williams, Swann, etc. can be used for him. Potential but always injured.

Edit: (Bonethug beat me to it) You forgot Okafor who will be a good situational pass rusher.

Moore is a solid Nickel

the other 4 CB can't stay healthy. I actually had hope of Williams as a #2 as he had good flashes in camp. But that injury was scary. Hard to say he fully recovers after that.

If he's so great why wasn't he in high demand during free agency? If he's the second best CB on the roster this season then the Saints are in trouble.

Just want to point out his last injury wasn't a concussion, but was a serious leg injury.

Those are tough to come back from for a guy who is asked to run fast all game.

I'm worried about Breaux for the same reason.

And Williams concussion was very severe.

I forgot what Crawley had but it was some type of leg injury iirc.

We needed Moore and we need a sure fire #1 guy still.

They are a lot of young players who received valuable playing time because of injuries. They were pressed into service because of injuries. That playing time and game day experience should pay dividends going foward and make all of our CB better going foward.

Personally I would not trade either of our draft picks in the first or second round for Butler.

I would draft Sydney Jones at 32 and wait for him to play in 2018. We get a younger cheaper CB and have the fifth year option to use on him if we need to in future. A lot of draft experts had Jones as the top CB comming out of scouting combine going into Pro day where he suffered the injury.

The Patriots don't give up on good football players. They are willing to trade Butler and are over paying for Stefon Gilmore the Buffalo CB sends warning flags up for me.

Reminds me of the Tubuckey Jones trade we did with New,England back in early 2000's.
