Drew has only had the chance to play with 2 top 10 scoring defenses where with 1 he won the superbowl. That's pretty efficient numbers when compared to others with top 10 defenses to make the opportunity at a superbowl easier.

Is Drew Brees a top 10 QB of all time?

You fricking nailed it. What is a system? You mean the plays designed and called around a quarterbacks strengths ??

quote:
People think just because he throws a lot of passes that makes him a system QB. That's just dumb though. The majority of QBs in NFL history could never put up his numbers even if they threw a bunch of passes. Not to mention he's never had a pro bowl WR and usually has really bad defenses. Brees has the big numbers, decent amount of wins including the Big One, and the honors/accolades. He is definitely a top ten

+ 1,000,000
Yes he's thrown a lot of passes, but he STILL has to throw those 'lots of passes' ACCURATELY, they STILL have to be CAUGHT, and he's STILL had to step in the pocket, have good rush awareness, or even scramble ON EVERY ONE of these pass attempts.

He also has not (as has been mentioned) had the luxury of name all-pro receivers. Colston and Henderson come the closest.

Also what's NEVER mentioned is that Brees probably holds and will hold the NFL record for NUMBER OF DIFFERENT RECEIVERS 'all those passes' went to....

With pitiful defenses, (save 2009's opportunistic D and 2013's #4 finish), and pretty much a no-name supporting cast, Brees has had the Saints in:
2 NFCC games and should have had a 3rd in 2011, 6 playoff appearances and a Super Bowl.

He may be #1 in most categories and hold ALL the all-time stats records when he retires, but, he should, at the very LEAST, be considered a Top 5 QB all-time, if not higher, after his career is over.

Although I get your point, Brees had Graham for some of his best seasons. Now, when you point out HoF wrs Brees wins that argument.

I don't get the Elway love. Yeah he is a HOF'er and should be but he is way overrated in my opinion. Brees over Elway easily.

He led several shitty teams to the Super Bowl and AFC Championship.... he won once the Broncos developed a RB and a defense though....

Brees is certainly a top 10 all time... I would have

Manning
Brees
Marino
Montana
Young
Unitas
Brees
Graham
Favre
Elway

(No particular order)

Dave Dameshek's list of top 10 Qbs in the Super Bowl era. He has most of the players, but his order is CRAZY.

Why does there always have to be a Top Ten, or a Top Five of freakin everything? There are too many different eras to do an All Time list like this. Can Brees call plays in a game without a speaker in his helmet like Unitas and those of his era did? Could Manning and Brady be as effective without the Defensive rules changes over the past 20 years?

He's definitely top 10. He'll have most every record by the time he's done.
I'd love to see him get one more SB (beating Brady preferably) since many people put so much weight in # of titles & MVPs

The obsession is real

If I were you I'd be mad too that Louisiana football teams have owned Texas football teams my entire life.

I'd say definitely yes in more recent times whatever that means. All time is impossible to say.

Unitas, Namath, Baugh, Van Brocklin, Staubach, etc. etc.

And since people are bringing up the Super Bowl for evidence, you have to include people like Stabler, Bradshaw, and even Aikman.

Super Bowl appearances/victories is a team accomplishment NOT and individual one. To be considered the greatest you should have good stats in the big games, but a QB isn't solely responsible for wins and loses, that kind of thinking is just dumb.

Exactly my point. See Williams, Dilfer, Flacco, Rypien, etc.

But I am not the one who brought up the SB win. And Saints fans bring it up all the time when talking about DB, including in this thread.
