2nd in the league in Comp%, even with a bad game yesterday completed the ball to 8 different guys, and with that sad Oline we saw yesterday there are only 5 teams in the league with less sacks given up.

So you're saying you have not seen the passes just barely in reach of the receivers this year? He was catching receivers in stride a couple of years ago, but it seems this year a lot of our guys are having to lay out to make catches. This affects our receivers' ability to get yards after the catch. I am not knocking Brees, but there is a substantial gap in quality between this year and 2 years ago, purely from the standpoint of throwing the ball accurately.

And yes, he completed passes to 8 different receivers this game, but Graham has been targeted more than anyone else on this team and he has stared him down - making easy play for secondaries. This has been a habit all season.

considering what the cost of his contract has done to the rest of the team...no

i swear, watching him is like that old jerry reed song, "when you're hot, you're hot"...

watch the first quarter of a game, if he's hitting receivers and no interceptions, that's the way he'll be all game...otherwise, what you see is what happened yesterday...

This team needs upgrades and changes. QB is absolutely not one of them. I swear this board, like every message boards, exceeds normal stupidity at times.

The politically correct answer is he is not worth that money if it prevents the team from getting better.

agree, his contract limits the quality of skill players in other positions.

This. And when the vault is opened for jimmy, we are really going to be screwed in regards of paying free agents. Brees needs to restructure his deal.

The only standard Brees fails to meet with any regularity is the HOF standard he set for himself. thanks to beauchristopher for a fact-based, thoughtful response to a pretty dumb question.

If Brees isn't worth his contract, it is simply because QB's should not be that highly paid (and a strong argument could be made that the opposite is true in the modern game). Based on any reasonable comparison to others who are similarly paid for playing QB, he is clearly worth it. Could you imagine this team, with this struggling OL, largely absent run game, and not terribly dynamic WR's without a HOF-class QB? We ain't 10-4.

Where would the Saints be without him? The best player ever in the Saints franchise .Holds several NFL records. The top season in yardage ever in the NFL, in fact 2 of the top three. And you never hear him bitch about not having the best of teams around him , like some other QB that always uses that excuse and(has 2 sons at QB in the NFL). Leader of the team .Won a Super Bowl we thought we would never see.The WHO in who dat.The answer is Yes ,yes , YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!

Most people don't realize that there are other factors that go into deciding a players worth than just his exploits on the field. Kobe Bryant makes so much money because his jersey is the 2nd most sold jersey behind Lebrons. That adds up quick and good agents know this. Drew offers many more intangible things off the field than most star football players. He is a super intelligent and well liked human being. The fans flock to this guy. He is more than a football player and his contract is worth every penny the Saints are paying him.

brees was severely underpaid his entire time in new orleans since 2006, and never once complained.. so the contract more than makes up for that.. especially considering since brees joined the saints in 06 no other qb had more wins than him up until the crap of last season.. now he has his team in 1st place in the south with a chance to clinch the division and the #2 seed.

All of the above- besides, anyone once to guess where we would be without Brees? He is worth every dime of his salary...

matt ryan has his team really poised for his 100 million contract

joe flacco doing all sorts of work for his 100 million contract

aaron rodgers all sorts of tored up shoulder missing games for his 100 million contract

tom brady's team sitting at the exact same 10-4 first place record for his 100 million contract

tony romo is another 100 million dollar qb.. and nothing more needs to be said here.

brees was severely underpaid his entire time in new orleans since 2006, and never once complained.. so the contract more than makes up for that.. especially considering since brees joined the saints in 06 no other qb had more wins than him up until the crap of last season.. now he has his team in 1st place in the south with a chance to clinch the division and the #2 seed.

right now he is

1st in the nfc in passing yards, and 2nd in the NFL to peyton manning. speaking of which peyton manning and his world beating broncos are 11-3 (one more win)

1st in the nfc in passing TDs, and 2nd in the NFL to peyton manning.

1st in the nfc in completion %, and 2nd in the NFL to phillip rivers.

among currently active starting QB's he is 3rd in the NFC in QBR

Pretty much all of this. The fact that the OP can make this thread tells me that he either hasn't seen much Saints football before 2006 or just chooses to ignore it.

Considering that the 2nd best qb we have ever had is Arron Brooks you might just want to take a step back and appreciate what we've got. You're right. He's not the best to ever throw a football. He's just ONE of the best.

Look at that list of QBs making 100 mil and tell me that the production we get out of Brees isn't either better or at least comparable. So according to the market we are absolutely getting our money's worth.

I only hope that we are fortunate enough to have a true successor to Brees on the roster and ready to go by the time he hangs it up.
