I honestly believe we will improve. Last year we had rookies playing major roles in each level of defense (Kikaha, Anthony, Breaux). Each played at least decently but still had normal rookie moments. I expect each each one to improve and that alone should lead to improvements to our defense.

I think they will be in the top half. DA is a very good coach and will have his guys playing fundamentally sound football.

I'm actually a little excited about them to tell the truth, not just the D but the whole team.

I mean you think they can't be any worse, and on paper there's no way they could be, but I've seen this movie before.

I think it was a little telling when Cam Jordan said the new scheme reminded him of Greg Williams days. I kinda like but kinda worry at the same time lol

I think we will continue to see improvement this season, but the D will not set the world on fire. We are too young and too void of talent on that side of the ball. IMO we did not do enough in the off season to see a huge change. We are heading in the right direction though.

OK here's what I think.

1. We never really got to see Allens full defense last year. (Allens full defense is an attacking defense that goes after the QB like Gregg Williams did)
2. We added alot of key pieces that will contribute in the off season. (4 FA to go with the rooks)
3. We have basicly 5 new rookies that will contribute on defense.(Counting PJ and Tull) Plus a couple changing positions . (Kikaha and Tull playing DE and Anthony playing Sam)
4. So if you look at all this then it is a completely new defense.

So my answer is yes. And I think we will be better than any of us expect.

P.S. Even though everyone keeps saying it we were ranked 31st last year not 32nd so it could be worse.

Recent history? A lack of overall talent? The guy in charge of the defense?

I don't have any fricking idea. I hope so. But i'm going into this season with no expectations.

I'm down with that, but by the same logic LSU will be trash again this year. Agree?

Since we're talking about defense the answer is no.
LSU was not "trash" on defense

Now if we're talking about overall record, I expect a 10-2 season...which again is not "trash"

Rankins and Fairley > Kevin Williams
Lewis and Williams > Brandon Browner
Kikaha pass rushing > Kikaha in coverage

These 3 things alone have to make us a little bit better.

I meant more overall. LSU has the same guy running their consistently inept offense. Plus no new talent on offense really, especially at QB. So going along the same lines as you did with the Saints D, I think 6th in the West sounds about right.

We added Bell, Rankins, Fairley and Laurinitas. Anthony and Kikaha are a year older, wiser and stronger.

A key element you didn´t mention that I believe will be greatly improved is our CB play. Breaux really struggled early on last year but finished as a legit #1 CB. With Breaux playing the lock down corner this year, it will allow a healthy Keenan Lewis to play the #2 CB. Lewis might no longer be a solid #1 CB but he should be a great #2. I think those 2 pieces of the puzzle will really aid in the improvement of the rest of the defense. This and the switch in defensive scheme could very well benefit our pass rush as well. At least this is what my optimism is telling me.

Bookmarked for end of the year. Nice deflection though, that hook is shiny.

I'm not sure what you think I deflected. The entire point of my first reply was thinking LSU's offense, I just didn't think to say it.

There's no point in bookmarking. I want to see LSU succeed as much as you do. I'm just tired of LSU fans who come on this board and throw shade at the Saints but throw hopeless optimism at LSU.
