Do you consider giving him the contract you more than likely will be handing over to Brandin Cooks when he becomes a FA next year?

I say you have to think about it, and for the money, Jeffrey is a total package

We can't lose one of the best deep threats in the NFL. Alshon is damn good, but Micheal Thomas is only going to get better and has pretty good size as well.

Wtf? Cooks >>>> Jeffrey. We shouldn't be paying any WRs this off-season unless our own. Stop using Madden overalls to persuade your thinking.

For the record, Cooks plays way better than Jeffrey on madden

This. Alshon's laziness cost him in the draft. He got fat & out of shape his last year at South Carolina. He got in shape his rookie year with the Bears that led to a really nice first season for him. I get the feeling he is back to giving zero fricks again.

As said we have the 5th year next year for Cooks.

Another thing is that Jeffrey just made 27, and Cooks doesn't turn 24 until the season starts. That's 3 and a half years younger, meaning more prime years left.

Has there been any report of laziness in the NFL? Unless you're equated injury w laziness

Last year was his first truly bad year, though his QB play was terrible. Even when he came back from injury in '15 he tore it up and almost went for 1k in half of a season

We don't need to spend at wideout but Jeffery w Drew Brees throwing to him would be stupid. Recency bias comes into play here but he's a better WR than Cooks

If there truly is any interest in Jeffery by the Saints, Payton can get the inside scoop from Ryan Pace, John Fox & Curtis Johnson.

He's better in certain areas. As long as Brees is here...we can't lose Cooks though(he spots Cooks creating separation on the deep ball very well). Thomas & Snead run very good intermediate/short routes. We actually have a complete group of WR's as a whole & probably the best trio in the NFL. There really is no reason to change anything.

We should add another deep threat. Not take away one and add another possession receiver

This.

I'd love to add a speedster late in the draft as our #4/#5. Just someone else that can take the cover off the top like we had when we had Henderson and Meachem, except Cooks is much better

I think Curtis Johnson will be the determining factor on whether or not we go after him.

"[Alshon is] a big like Marques Colston," Johnson said. "I would say he has very good hands like Reggie Wayne. And I’m not saying those guys are the same, but if you asked me who this guy reminds me of, he’s kind of like those guys

quote:

"I think it’s a good relationship," Johnson said on Friday. "I think, I don’t know, you’ll have to ask Alshon. From my end, when I call, he answers. We talk about a lot of different things, a lot of different conversations. He’s a young guy and I like talking to him. He’s a very, very fun guy to talk to. He’s smarter than you would think. Very sports history -- he can talk about it all. And I can talk and he can talk. So everybody told me he was quiet, but he’s not as quiet as I thought he would be

quote:

“I saw him personally (earlier this year). I’ve talked to him. We talk probably once a week. … I think he’s eager. He said he’s working out. He’s doing a good job. That’s what he says. This (part of the offseason program) is voluntary. It’s not mandatory. And he said he’d guarantee that he’s going to be here when (mandatory minicamp) comes around. I flew to California and saw him when I first got the job here. I saw him one day as well at Wildberry, the restaurant around here. So we’ve definitely talked personally. (I went to California) just to get to know him a little bit. He didn’t know who I was. And I didn’t know who he was. But one thing about him is he’s a very, very bright young man. He’s smart. He’s confident. And I really fell in love with him. I really liked him. I liked his personality. I liked his goals. He really wants to win here. And I fell in love with him.”

I don't think that Cooks wants to be here. He seemed like a really good guy coming out of college, and I'm sure he still is. But he acted like a total bitch when he was used as a decoy (and a great one at that, we beat the frick out of the Rams without Brees even looking at him). Cooks is on a rookie contract this year, then a fairly cheap option next year. Thomas is a monster and will be the guy in the future. If we see a stretch-the-field type WR that we like in the first 3 or 4 rounds this season, we need to consider drafting him. If not, then look at one next draft.
