Hypothetical: Would Dallas trade Dak for Drew right now?

Totally hypothetical, but Drew has a good 3-4 years left. With Dallas' OLine and the rest of their offense, we're talking about a serious SB run with a veteran, Hall of Fame QB at the helm.

Would Dallas make that trade? Would New Orleans?

I'm not advocating for it at all. I want Drew to finish here. But, it was an interesting thought. Would you make that trade?

Of course they wouldn't.

No way they would even consider it.

If I'm the Cowboys, I do that in a heartbeat. If I'm the Saints, I laugh and hang up the phone unless Dallas is willing to throw one or two 1st rounders at us.

This. Everyone in the league knows how good Drew is. The only ones that don't seem to be Saints fans. Dak has been great this year but he still has a lot to prove. There are about 25-30 teams who would give their collective left nut to have Drew Brees as their QB.

Only a Saint's homer would think Dallas considers this for more than a split second.

Father time marches on. Drew is on his down and Dak has an entire career. Go with Dak -- not close.

No way. There are several reasons.

1) The main one being is that for the next 3 years Dak is under a rookie contract and Drew is on a one year deal. Similar to what Seattle did with Russell Wilson. The cheap rookie deal allows them to add pieces around them.

2) Dallas needs to add to defense.

Drew is great and clearly better than Dak. That isn't what the question is though.

1. Dak is under the rookie contract. His cap hit is barely over the minimum. His 2019 cap hit, which is his largest, is $815k

2. They clearly consider Dak to be their franchise QB going forward

3. Drew is due an extension/new contract

With the way that team is built, they can continue to add peaces around Dak and build for a long term future.

Drew is way better than Dak, but there isn't a QB in the NFL better than Dak + $20-23 million. With that money, you can add a top pass rusher + change; a great tackle, or 3-4 solid contributors.

Doesn't matter. Dak is young while Brees is nearing retirement. There's no way Dallas would take Brees over Dak nor should they.

Dallas had one of the best regular seasons in their franchise history(may be best. I don't know their history that well to say definitively) and were 2 games away from a Super Bowl appearance. Drew is great and is a sure fire HOFer, but Dallas seemingly has their franchise QB for the next 15-20 years. No way in hell they would trade him unless they get an offer where they can absolutely trade-rape somebody.

I mean Dak may suck next year we don't know he may have just found lightning in a bottle. Drew on the other hand is a proven winner and hall of famer. No I would not give his last three years to the cowgirls for a rookie qb

Nor would I

But Dallas wouldn't trade him for Drew right now either.

But we can talk how we value Grayson as a 3rd fricking rounder when we had other needs that could have easily been addressed there, like Guard, tackle, corner, linebacker, WR, TE, etc

I'm willing to bet that Dallas will restructure Dak's contract very soon. No way they let him play out his rookie contract as is.

And there is no way in my opinion that they would trade Dak for Drew. Dak will only improve next season.

As a Saints fan, I would love that trade and do it in a heartbeat.

Look, it wasn't a proposal. It was a hypothetical scenario.

I'd rather keep Drew and hope to win one with him. I think that is more likely than Dak winning a SB in the next 3 years.
