With most folks saying at 3 more years, would ya agree that a possible draftee replacement doesn't even need to be thought about until 2018? Not even then if Grayson turns into THE guy.

Depends on if the team will still be in winning shape first year or two without drew. The more better setup we are to win, 3-4 years from now, the more we should consider getting a qb up to par quicker. if that makes any sense. I think we see how Grayson develops this year and next, if he doesn't pan out, we make another plan.

I think that has been the consensus with most of the regular posters on here. There are obviously the few that like to claim he's a shell or we need to move on for the sake of the cap. But, outside of those I think most people were thinking 2017-2018 draft would be the time to consider looking at a mid round replacement. And if we wait until 2019, we have to consider a 1st or 2nd round guy that may sit 1-2 years.

Here's the all time passing yards leaders: For Brees to be Number 1 on the list he will need to average 3,679 yards over the next three season.
Passing Yardage Leaders
RK PLAYER YDS
1 PEYTON MANNING 71,940
2 Brett Favre 71,838
3 Dan Marino 61,361
4 DREW BREES 60,903
5 TOM BRADY 58,028

Here's the all time leaders in passing TD's:Touchdown Pass Leaders. Brees will need to average 37 TDs a season over the next 3 years to be in first place.
RK PLAYER TD
1 PEYTON MANNING 539
2 Brett Favre 508
3 TOM BRADY 428
DREW BREES 428
5 Dan Marino 420

Since joining the Saints 10 years ago Brees has averaged 4,855 yards a season and 34.8 TD's a season...

My analysis: Brees will be number 1 in both passing yards and passing TDs when his career is over

If Saints don't get a better offensive line he'll be on a stretcher permanently within a year.

He would need to play at least 1 year longer than Brady to get the passing TDs.

I think it should already be in his mind, as thoughtful as I would like to think he is. The reality is that we are rebuilding and I don't think anyone on this board knows where the bottom is. Will Spiller end up being a beast, will the o-line come together? Great potential but it just hasn't happend for whatever reason. Two years ago we were a solid pick by the pundits to come out of the nfc

Pretty amazing, that if he plays 3 more years, and averages just 400 completions/ 4k yards per... he'll top Favre and Manning for completions and yards... he plays anywhere near the level of the past few years for even 2 more seasons, and that 3rd year is going to be just about how far ahead he is on the record.

Roethlisberger and Luck are the only 2 anywhere near being able to catch Completions/yards at their age/pace.

Drew won't catch Favre on pass attempts in 3 seasons, period. He'd need to average near 700. Or Manning for TDs unless he averages 37 TDs per. He'll pass Manning on Passer Rating, with a 3 season average over 100. 46 INTs below Manning, hopefully he can stay under 15.3 per on that. Even years have been rough :/ The Passing yards per game lead should continue to go up. Even Stafford and Luck aren't big threats at this one. Same for passes completed per game, and %.

3 just decent Drew seasons left, and he can retire:
1st All Time: Completions, Yardage, Yards per game, Passes completed per game, Completion %
2nd All time: Touchdowns, Pass Attempts
Top 5: Passer Rating
NOT Top 10: Interceptions
Definitely 3 for Drew, unless he wins it all in year 2. That would have him turning 40 DURING the playoff run. Tom only has 2 left on his deal. Garoppolo has 2. They'll be in a similar situation as Broncos with Osweiler. If they sign Matt Forte to a 2 year deal, that should be further confirmation. Also, Tom will start this season at 39. These guys like that 40 number.

Manning didn't fall off the proverbial cliff until 39, and he is no where near as conditioned as Brees. I think Brees has a minimum of 4, maybe 5 left.

I would be ecstatic for 3 but more realistically I would say 2.
He is 37 now
That being said,
I hope I am wrong and he plays another 5 !

Brady signs 2 year extension

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Quarterback Tom Brady and the New England Patriots have agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2019 season, NFL sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter and Dianna Russini.

Brady had two years left on his contract, paying him $9 million in 2016 and $10 million in 2017. Brady's salary-cap charge for 2016 was scheduled to be a team-high $15 million, and the extension will likely lower that number.

The Patriots have about $13 million in salary-cap space and are in the beginning stages of planning for possible extensions with a core group of defenders whose contracts expire after the 2016 season. That group includes linebackers Jamie Collins and Dont'a Hightower, defensive end Chandler Jones and cornerback Malcolm Butler.

The deal with Brady is not yet signed and may not be for a little while, sources said.

Brady turns 39 in August, and the new deal gives him the chance to play into his 40s, something he has expressed an interest in doing.

Backup Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, a 2014 second-round draft choice out of Eastern Illinois, is signed through the 2017 season.

Drew almost threw for 5,000 yards last season and the season before last. I don't see a dramatic decline in his near feature.

ETA: Saints fans take Drew for granted and it makes me sick. We may not see a 5,000 yard passer in a black and gold jersey for another 15 years after Drew bids his farewell.

Take him for granted!?!

He is starving our payroll and already has enough money to give his kids their own Jimmy Johns location.

Hopefully, we take a new kid in the first round and just move on. 2009 was so long ago ....

Rookie QB, no OG's, worst defense in the NFL. Great idea.

Whenever we move on from Brees...we need to have a good O-Line & defense. Otherwise, we have no chance.

I'd say 3 seasons is realistic. 4, if we are lucky and he stays relatively hit-free.

As great a condition as he's in, the human body just starts yielding to the rigors or a football season. Just this seasons, Brees injured his throwing shoulder and then injured his foot on a routine scramble. These are injuries that start to pile up as players reach the back end of 30.

Seeing a guy like Sam Bradford get a lucrative contract and Cousins get franchised, I'm so grateful that Brees is still producing at a high level. I hope we can get him the support he needs to contend again soon.
