How good is Marcus Mariota going to look in Black and Gold?

Calling my shot that, barring a selection of Mariota by Tennessee at #2, the Saints will pull off the blockbuster trade with the Oakland Raiders.

Saints will send #13, #31 and a 4th (2016) for the #4 pick and a 6th rounder.

Saints then select the heir apparent with Mariota.

As we all know, you are nothing in this league without a franchise QB.

Many people have questions about MM's ability to transition to the NFL game, but New Orleans provides him a quality opportunity: smaller market, HOF starter to learn from, top quality head coach, and ability to ease his way into knowledge of the pro game before taking over the reigns.

I know that the Saints still have plenty of deficiencies to address in the draft and the offseason, but the Saints have to start preparing for a life after Drew. I think that Marcus has the ability and fortitude to be that player.

Loomis wouldnt make it past the draft if that happened.

negative chance it happens because it makes zero sense.

Please explain to me how drafting a highly touted QB makes zero sense when your current QB is 36 years old and is an Unrestricted Free Agent after the 2016 season?

Is your position because you feel that better players are available, or is it more of a distrust in MM?

Just trying to wrap my mind around it. Thanks.

I mean shite why not go all the way and get winston if this is the thinking? They'll likely extend brees next year, they got a top 5 center and are committing more to the run game to maximize his strengths. You do realize how good he still is right?

There are better QB Prospects next year they can get without sacrificing assets like that. Or hell get hundley/grayson in the 3rd if that pleases you.

Impact guys>>>>>>backup QB

This would be a terrible move for this franchise

Because we have other holes. Why waste three picks for a guy to sit the bench for maybe 2 years. They can get a QB next year in 2-5 rounds. They should load up on DEFENSE in this draft with a receiver and maybe a O lineman sprinkled in

I mean look at the prospects next year:

Connor Cook
Christian Hackenburg
Jared Goff
Cody Kessler
Cardale Jones
Dak
Pat Towles
Kevin Hogan

And there's more besides that

I'm still trying to understand the OP's logic. You want to sacrifice any chance at winning anything within the next 2 years so you can draft a guy that many belive will not transition to NFL well? All while having a top 10 QB, good OL with potential to make it great with one of the picks you are giving away, a stable of talented RB's, and draft picks to add to the WR core that features your last years 1st rounder (that we gave up picks to get).

I would seriously get arrested for Arson. Not only would I light stuff on fire, I would be so angry I wouldn't even try to get away with it.

because Winston is a huge character liability in addition to his poor choices on field last season, as shown by his 15+ INT.

Extending a 37 year old QB would be a terrible fiscal decision.

who missed 10 games last season and three the season before that. I am hoping that he can stay healthy. Cannot trust those Hawaiians, though...

I do, and I also realize that the downturn can happen at any moment, much like with Peyton Manning. I would rather not see the Saints get behind the 8-ball with an aging Drew Brees, and I would rather have a plan established when Brees is gone. Sounds like I am in the minority, but I think that 2016 will be Brees' last with the Saints. If another team wants to drop huge money on him at 38, then more power to them. I just hope that it is not NO.

He took a step back yes but FSU WRs weren't as good as last year. He at least knows how to work in a pro style offense and make reads.

He's a weirdo because he's a genius on the field but not off but he did mostly kid stuff.

It would save cap space and the team has plenty next year to boot.

Let's hope so

The saints likely do have a succesion plan but I highly doubt it's mariota or anyone from this class.

Why not build the team with as much talent as you can and get the "heir" next year when there's better prospects?

So you acknowledge that there are deficiencies; yet you want to overlook those to draft the "heir" to the thrown who won't see the field for 3+ years. Are you overlooking the fact that when you draft a QB that high, there is external pressure to play that QB now. plus, if you don't address those needs, the player won't have a chance to learn behind Brees bc he'll be thrown in the mix right away after Brees gets knocked all over the field.
