I felt like this needed its own thread. So i've seen several posts in different threads about wanting Payton gone. I've also had some buddies say the same thing. Almost as if he is close to getting to the Les Miles treatment.

With that said.... Sean Payton is still arguably one of the top 5, maybe top 10 NFL coaches in the league imo. It should be stated that this isn't really his fault that we are 0-2 and have had a rough 3-4 years. That is 99% the fault of our front office for not putting Payton in a place to succeed. Drafting has been close to horrendous, FA signing has been bad, and not to mention the dead cap numbers we have.

Upvote if you like Payton and want him here for a long time.
Downvote if you dont like Payton and want a change.
Also, thoughts?

Your first part does not mesh with A) his record the past two and now this year and B) your followup statements that I have bolded.

The drafted players and free agents are all selected by Payton. Loomis is not the talent scout. He listens to SP and makes it happen. Your final point regarding dead cap IS Loomis' doing, and that's a fair criticism.

So Loomis is at fault for yesterday? Loomis and his def gave up 3 field goals got three TO's his fault and the off. does sh!t and its Loomis's fault?

Loomis draft Grayson? Got Spiller and Browner over CSP's objections?

Highest paid head coach and QB in the league and this is the product? Someone needs to be held accountable. Clearly heads need to roll.

This is doubtful. Where is the evidence. It appears he caught lightning in a bottle one season and it has been downhill since then.

wrong. payton was a good coach with the eagles, giants, and cowboys.

nice try though!

problem is he is responsible for his fackups in the draft and free agency. this is not on loomis.

Fire Loomis. His play calling sucked yesterday.

agreed. i've defended payton and enough is enough. how many coaches will still be employed with 3 STRAIGHT LOSING SEASONS after this year???

His is responsible for keeping clowns like joe vitt, greg mcmahon, bill johnson etc.

I think Peyton and Brees were excellent for one another and maybe peyton has gotten a little stale. Based on he and his staffs inability to aquire talent consistently, I'd say he is not worth what he currently makes. However, given the unstable ownership situation we are likely not going to get better at this time so hopefully we stick by him and he has a bill cowher like rejuvenation in the next few years.

I thought that Payton was a Bill Parcells clone. Parcells did not need a "football guy" GM.

Payton is no Parcells. The Saints need a "football guy" GM. They need a "Bill Parcells" in the front office.

We're On our third straight losing season. With no end in sight. When exactly do you think this starts being attributed to the head coach ?

Can I just down vote for being such a bad thread?

As is has been pointed out in this thread, and in all of those other threads you claimed to have read, SP is responsible for player personnel. He has final say in who we draft & who we bring in for FA. An argument can be made for the scouting department as they collect the data for him since he does not have time to study every player; however, it's his final say.

Loomis is 50/50 responsible for dead cap, he created the contracts; however, it was SP & Ireland's recommendations about who to get and who to get rid of.

You guys are forgetting one major factor about this season that we all should be mad at, but can't do anything about--injuries.

Yesterday's game was huge for the defense and Dennis Allen should get a metal. Moreover, Sterling Moore should get a goddamn trophy.

The playcalling was pretty bad at times yesterday on offense and this loss is solely on them.

From all accounts, Micky Loomis is more a numbers guy than an actual talent evaluator.

Sean is a brilliant offensive mind, but it's telling that so many DC relationships have failed over the years. He also has been making some truly awful personnel decisions along with Loomis.

I don't think he's done, but he has to relinquish some front office control, and they have to get a strong D coordinator and almost give him autonomy in my humble opinion.
