We should have gone after Dick whenever he was available instead of bringing Allen in to "co-manage" the defense

It seems like this has happened with the Jeff Ireland thing. Payton and Loomis have both said that Loomis is more than a numbers guy, not that it means anything.

I still am very curious to see what their big fight was over that almost cost us Payton.

I think he has something with Dennis Allen, honestly. The personnel, even with injuries, is showing up. These guys aren't world beaters on the outside, but let's be real--they hung in very well yesterday in what could have been a complete disaster.

Yea, I hated the Allen situation when he was brought in

But that was one of the best defensive performances we've seen under Payton, and without 5 starters

I want Payton here for the long term, but he needs to be forced to fire McMahon, Vitt, and Johnson, and he needs to be forced to give up all power over personnel decisions.

So Loomis is at fault for yesterday? Loomis and his def gave up 3 field goals got three TO's his fault and the off. does sh!t and its Loomis's fault? Loomis draft Grayson? Got Spiller and Browner over CSP's objections?

I would say its both. Payton isn't good at looking at D talent. My dream is that we take Tre White from LSU 1st. but they wont

You guys are forgetting one major factor about this season that we all should be mad at, but can't do anything about--injuries.
Ok, we're highly injured...on defense.
Our offense is practically completely healthy.

But yesterday, the offense did jack shite.

Mickey Loomis. Our defense is on the rise, but the Saints have a historically bad defense. Why hasnt that changed in several decades? Payton's fault?

We're On our third straight losing season. With no end in sight. When exactly do you think this starts being attributed to the head coach ?

drafting/aquring a defense worth a shite. He has continued to put a top offense on the field for his saints tenure. Playing with a shite defense every year except 2009 and maybe 2011.

This is why I think he's done.

Because he WON'T relinquish power.
He WON'T fire Mcmahon after years and years of crappy ST play.
He WON'T fire Johnson or Vitt either.
He WON'T get along with or stop interfering with DC's.

He's totally unwilling to bend.

Well who do you want making those decisions, then? Mickey Loomis? Loomis doesn't really do personnel evaluation. He does magic. Not the same thing.

He has gone stale . It's like any coach who has been on a team for awhile. It gets stale. Need to change things up.He isn't adjusting to the nfl changes that well.Trying to copy other teams philosophy aka Seattle defense last year and it just doesn't work. I feel he is good but just need a new philosophy here with a new coach. Look at giants Tom Coughlin his philosophy in newyork just went stale.

I don't know the answer to who should be doing those things, and I know it shouldn't be Loomis either. But Payton isn't getting the job done with talent evaluation, so they need to find someone who can or both Payton/Loomis need to go.

Exactly

Who are you going to hire? There are 15 teams licking their chops if Payton were on the market.

I love it. The same people who want Payton fired are the same ones who thought we were going 10-6, 9-7

exactly. Good first post.

A big reason I want to keep Payton is because the odds of us getting a garbage coach is a lot higher than us finding a Belichick.

I think their free agency has been mostly disastrous. And one thing I just kind of don't understand is how they can find a guy like Delvin Breaux off the street and he's one of the best CB's in the league but they can't seem to hit on defensive lineman. There's a diamond in the rough then there's a turd in a napkin.

For every time we want to bash their evaluation of talent, let's be real and give examples of when they've struck gold.

I haven't seen any posts that wanted him gone. I've seen several posts stating that he is to blame for most of the Saints' problems or just criticizing him in general. That doesn't mean they want him fired.
