re: Graham pissed about the offensive PI flag

Yeah it's not a legit call, because of a couple of reasons.
1. It was most obviously a flop. This is the NFL, not the fricking NBA. The refs in the NFL aren't there to call flops. It's not like they're playing flag. I guess.
2. It's a Hail Mary situation. There's pass interference literally going on everywhere because it's chaos. For a ref to throw a flag on the last play of the game in a Hail Mary situation is completely idiotic. They're trained to not do so unless it's an egregious situation, and this most certainly wasn't.

The only people on earth who don't think it was an acceptable call are posting on this board.

I'm probably gonna say no.

Nice logic.

So honestly, you guys don't even think it was close? Or a debatable call? Really? The ref on the spot didn't hesitate. The replay from his angle was pretty clear. If it had not been called, I would have been happy, but I definitely would think we got away with one.

No. Not even close. 9 times out of 10 that is not called in that situation. Especially when taking into account being a home game, hail mary, slight contact, huge flop.
Refs screwed us, but regardless we shouldn't have been in that situation. I am not saying that cost us the game as we should never have been in a situation of needing that.

Digest of Rules Main
Pass Interference
It is pass interference by either team when any player movement beyond the line of scrimmage significantly hinders the progress of an eligible player of such player’s opportunity to catch the ball. Offensive pass interference rules apply from the time the ball is snapped until the ball is touched. Defensive pass interference rules apply from the time the ball is thrown until the ball is touched.
* * * * * * *
Actions that constitute offensive pass interference include but are not limited to:
(a) Blocking downfield by an offensive player prior to the ball being touched.
(b) Initiating contact with a defender by shoving or pushing off thus creating a separation in an attempt to catch a pass.
(c) Driving through a defender who has established a position on the field.
* * * * * * * * *
Note 2: Defensive players have as much right to the path of the ball as eligible offensive players.
Maybe they forgot to write down the part that says how hard the receiver has to push the defender.

The delusion quotient is very high after a loss.

Oh, now it's all clear. Thanks for that. UGH!

It can only be because he hates the Saints.

yes. when extreme, unreasoning and upset homers are given the choice.

It was both a legitimate penalty and a flop.
I disagree. There was a hell of a lot more than that going on all game that wasn't called. But now you decided to call OPI on a HAIL MARY?
Shouldn't have extended his hands out, but it certainly wasn't a push off nor enough contact to garner a flag. Especially considering what they were letting go all game.

Exactly. 50% of the times these "experts" are wrong. They can't even agree with themselves.
The thing is VOR does not realize that the "situational" component is a big part of the penalty calls. He thinks that looking at the black and white print makes his case, refusing to accept that there is huge variability in interpretation and enforcement of the rules as written.

what pisses me off (and probably most saints fans) is the fact that roddy white has made a career out of pushing off, yet the refs find a flag for a slight shove on a hail mary.
Posted on 11/9/14 at 8:05 pm to diat150
Exactly. No bloody way that is called any other goddamn game.
