Drew brees throwing to Vernon Davis would be scary good. TE size, good hands, faster than most WRs.

A few of our key veteran offensive weapons are getting older. I think we need to sign him.

Colston, Moore, Pierre, all getting up there in age. We need some stability there. It's not going to be as easy to just plug and play.....referring to you saying how good we were without him

I agree LE. I think we have to understand what we have with Stills and Toon. I dont want to get in s situation similar to NE though they are still 5-1 fwiw.

No matter what imo you have to at least keep your options open with Graham. If the right FAs are available or a great trade opportunity comes our way then u would have to consider parting ways with him. Only 1 guy is off limits and 100% necessary for saints to be successful.

Then you haven't been paying attention.

He certainly is. I don't know why you would act like he isn't.

Do u understand what once in a lifetime means? Gronk is at least as good as Graham and he is playing at the exact same time

Well, they throw to him every other play in SF, so he still gets his chances. And you just described Graham also. Except Graham is like 6'7.

I love Jimmy Graham, so I don't want this to be taken the wrong way. But I think he needs Drew Brees more than Brees needs him. He's a great player to have, but Brees has done great with Antonio Gates and Jeremy Shockey. Hell, Ben Watson is having a great year.

I also think that if we get to Franchise Tag talks, they will get bogged down in whether to tag him as a TE or WR. He will claim he's more like a WR because of how often he is split out. And I think he has a pretty good claim. I think it will be like Suggs where they will make it some kind of hybrid.

Ahh this stuff again. If you want to have championship level results you better have championship level players. We have an average at best line, 2 young wrs who show some potential, one great receiving back who will be 30, one good wr who is going to be 30+ and is physically breaking down, one diminutive wr who is consistently injured and going to be 30, one 33 year old TE, a good screen back who will be 29 next season, and an undrafted rookie at rb.

That is your offense for Brees to work with .

Then we have Graham who is one of the ingest mismatches in the nfl and is still getting better.

Well I'm not going to argue against that. A qb is more important than anything on the field, so I won't disagree.

Nothing compared to what he's done with Jimmy though. I know other tight ends are good, but man, watching Jimmy is insane. He just seems to be head and shoulders better than the other tight ends around, except for maybe Gronk, but he's always hurt lately.

I am not doubting graham. I just dont think we can take the csp hit of both him and drew and compete for a super bowl.

We are going to be getting a decent amount of money back from those 3 big Vilma, Smith, and Harper contracts so that'll help. I need some restructuring has already been done with those, but a good bit of money should come off the books with them. Only other really big contract I can see us having to give out in the somewhat near future is Cam Jordan whenever his runs out.

Look at who we keep talking about though. Gronk and Jimmy. Both of which have outstanding QBs. Julius Thomas only has a few less receptions and one more TD. His QB is P. Manning.

I'm just saying that Graham is very very good. But Brees makes him great. Brees could make Jordan Cameron or Martellus Bennett all stars as well.

I'm confident you can give Jimmy a mediocre qb and he would do great. Not as great as he does with Brees obviously, but still great. And the different between Julius Thomas and the other 2 is Julius Thomas isn't the focal point of his offense. Gronk and Jimmy are most definitely the focal points of their offenses, so they receive much more defensive attention than Thomas. I'm not taking anything away from Thomas, but he also plays in an offense where he is probably the 3rd-4th best option.

IDK, Brees' accuracy is a big part of why Graham is very good. Brees can put the ball in a spot where only Jimmy can catch it. Don't think Christian Ponder can do that.

Christian Ponder isn't mediocre. When I think mediocre I think average or middle of the pack. Maybe someone like Andy Dalton. Nothing great but not terrible.

Jimmy is sort of like Randy Moss in that if you throw it up he'll just go get it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he is Randy Moss, but he has a similar skill set in that even if you overthrow him, he can still just go up and get it.

Again, I'm not saying having Drew doesn't help Jimmy. It does a good bit, but he would still be unstoppable without him.

When you consider health, I think Graham is the best tight end in football right now. Gronk might have a slight edge if he could stay healthy. There are a couple other really good ones (Vernon Davis, and Gonzales), but I would def take Graham first.

In short, I think Graham should be paid like what he is: the best tight end in football...so a deal a little better than Gronk. If he is not happy with that and wants WR money that would suck, but I don't think the Saints should pay that. If another team will, I guess there isn't much the Saints could do...
