Larry Holder examines some key issues HERE

His forecast-

A new deal won't be reached this season.

The Saints will be forced to use the franchise tag on Graham, at a rate of about $6 million for next season - the average for the league's five highest-paid tight ends. I'm not buying he'll be tagged as a wide receiver.

The two sides eventually will strike a deal during the summer closer to Gronkowski's contract as opposed to the Johnson and Fitzgerald deals.

Saints fans, you should already be battle tested after Brees' contract tussle. Prepare yourself accordingly for another long process with Graham.

I'm not really worried about it. They'll figure it out.

I'm more worried about graham completely disappearing last weekend.

What has he done for us lately?

No catches, no yards.

Screw him!

"Grahams agent is unable to take your calls this week Mr. Loomis. He says to try him Monday after the buffalo game."

Im not too woried. Although it does concern me. That was simply Belickeck being Belicheck i think

I dont see any other team in the NFL being able to do what he did to Graham

Idk if its going to happen, but i think hes going to fight tooth and nail to make it happen, and he has a much better case for it than some of the others that have tried to do the same

Like with what happened to Terrell Suggs in 2008, the Saints will tag Jimmy at the cheaper position of tight end. Then Graham will probably file a grievance and ask for a determination of his position. They'll eventually compromise at a hybrid tag value between the cost of the TE and WR franchise values (probably 8-8.5 million if the franchise costs are close to the 2013 numbers).

Graham is a great player no doubt; however, is it beneficial to pay him top $ knowing that it will cause the saints to lose out on other players bc of the cap?

Saints were great offensively before Graham so how much of a difference does he really make. Would you rather have 3 really good players or 1 great player?

We play significantly better when we spread the ball around.

But yeah, we need Graham

Do we? What was our offense ranked pre-graham?

Graham is great dont get me wrong but what is a better formula for a SB run. 1 Graham or 3 very good other players?

Graham is a great player but he is going go get paid as a FA. That money has to come from some where.

Saints should hold onto best-in-the-league players.

Brees--best QB
Graham--best TE
Sproles--best all-purpose

and for my money:

Morstead--best K/P

Will probably be from those big contracts from Harper, Vilma, Smith, etc. You keep talking about the offense before Jimmy, but we got extremely lucky with the draft before Jimmy. We had a fairly cheap offensive line that was pretty good. Nicks was hardly making anything. I see what you're saying, but you don't get rid of Jimmy. He makes the passing game so much better. IMO, he's not just a great player, he's a once in a generation talent at his position. You can't replace that. He makes Sproles, Thomas, and our receivers that much better in the passing game.

Once in a generation? Lets slow down a bit. Brees is a big reason for Grahams success. There are a few TEs in the league who i would take over Graham and who dont need to be taken out on running downs.

For a single game perhaps gronk if he ever gets healthy. But if I am investing any money on the future It would be JG hands down.
JG has the attitude and worth ethic and no off field problems. #1 in my book.
