Who would you like to pick up to buffer the roster?

I'd be fine with Conor Barwin and Mo Claiborne on cheap deals.

RB - Rex Burkhead. I actually wouldn't mind LaGarrette Blount or Latavius Murray for cheap if we don't re-sign Hightower. We need 2 more RB's...all we have right now are Ingram & Lasco. Cadet just visited the Jets, so he might be done here.
DE - Datone Jones, Connor Barwin(visits the Bengals on Monday), Jared Odrick, or Chris Long
CB - Morris Claiborne or Brandon Carr. These are the only 2 guys left that are starting caliber, so there's no point in signing anyone else. We have plenty of CB's for depth...assuming PJ is our #3 next year, Sterling Moore(F.A.), Crawley, Swann, DeVante Harris, & Webb(F.A.).

As far as our own guy...I really want to sign Tim Hightower, Darryl Tapp(he would actually be a starter if the season started tomorrow), Sterling Moore, & Justin Drescher. They will probably make the team. We have other guys, but these are the main 4 imo.

Lots of good depth players left and guy's that could be contributors. Some starters too.

Dontari Poe, Rex Burkhead, Carr, Mo, Datone Jones, Odrick, TJ Mcdonald, Zach Brown, Michael Floyd, Bennie Logan, Minter, Demarcus Ware, Freeney, Brandon McDougald, Devin Taylor

Replacing Cooks with josh Gordon and getting the 32nd pick

No real risk seeing as our O will roll regardless

I find it strange we haven't done more with the cap space we have honestly. Not even news of visits really.

I agree hightower would have been nice to have, but the saints canceled a meeting they had scheduled with him so..... most likely wanting insane money im guessing, but it seems the saints are no longer interested in him.

the butler deal does still seam like a 40% chance of happening, patriots a news feed board suggested they want their #32 back and the picks for cooks was more or less a pawn ticket until butler signs with them. but then look at all the rumors on our board involving cooks so maybe none of that is true.

really I think we are good with what we have now going into the draft and IMHO we should be done with FA except for exploring the butler deal if its still there

Pretty solid post, but I don't see them signing any Jordan type defensive ends and all the good speed rushers are gone.

As well as the guys you named, I think Sanford would be a good resign given our current safety depth.

Mauti played well on special teams and was a decent fill in on defense.

Wilson played well as a nickel back and we could use a more experienced corner just in case (as well as Moore but if only one bring back Moore).

And of course we should try to retain Edebali at the speed rusher spot. He's come a long way from the wild wrecking ball he started as, and we really need some depth there.

It's been pretty quiet league wide. I'm thinking since this class isn't as deep teams are waiting players out. It's a buyers market.

True, but we need someone to at least stop the run if our 1st/2nd round draft pick doesn't pan out. Kruger sure as hell isn't the guy & Tapp is on his last leg(although he played good last year). Kikaha & Edebali could provide a pass rush hopefully, but most teams ran on us outside the tackles(on the side that Jordan wasn't on).

It won't be a problem if we hit on our draft pick, but it creates a massive hole if he isn't ready yet.

At least we don't have to worry about DT for 2 more years. We're pretty much set there with our 4 guys.

Good call. I forgot about him. If he's the same player that he was in 2015...he would be our #3 safety. He actually played pretty good as a spot starter for us that year. Hopefully he's fully recovered from his injury.

I wouldn't mind Claiborne. Him with Breaux, Williams, Swann if he's healthy, Wilson, and Moore if he comes back, and the two UAFA's Crawley and Harris is a nice group of CB's. Would also free us up to to use our top 5 picks on other positions.

No chance we sign any MLB. I doubt we would pay Klein 3years/15mil & then sign another MLB to an even bigger contract. Paying your backup MLB that much money would be very odd to say the least & it would make our FO look like a bunch of jackasses.

We might draft a MLB though. If Klein ends up sucking, we'll probably just cut him(post June 1) next year and eat the dead money if it saves us more money than his production is worth.

Jacquis Smith from Tampa could be an interesting pass rush option. Had an ACL last year but showed promise his first two years

Curious to see what our current players do with a fresh and likely more competent coaching staff. I've seen a lot of raw talent being under-coached for the last few years.

Pretty sad the first wave is over. This was supposed to be the Free Agency that overhauled our defense and so far we've signed two offensive players and.........wait for it.........AJ Klein. Just sign Claiborne up to lower the chances that BW Webb or Crawley have to cover Julio next year.

When we drafted him Payton said he viewed Onyemata as a defensive end, but that they'd start him out inside.

Between Jordan, Rankins, Fairley, Onyemata, Davison, and maybe Tapp if brought back we have that covered.

On the other hand we have Kikaha and maybe Edebali if brought back as a rusher. We need rushers. We don't need to populate the roster with any more bigs.

Give him a chance, dude. Robertson & Stupar worked out for us last year.

I'll give Klein a chance and maybe Nolan saw something in him, but thatis my pick for worst move so far this year, just ahead of the Cooks trade.

I've come around a bit on both of them, but I'm still not sold on Klein making good starter money. That's more than we gave Robertson and Lauranitis last year. Thankfully one of them worked out really well and can be more dynamic on the outside.
