how did this happen? did you approach them with the idea or they you? I will try and do something similar, but want to know how to do it

You have to mention it to them. The guy I talked to was pretty cool about the whole thing. We talked football a bit. But he still had to say the right things. What I gathered was they can not offer the billing address thing, but if you bring it up they can do it.
So yes, you have to bring it up to them.

So I could have a dvr and like one other room and the kids can just get a few channels straight from the wall with no box?

yeah this is what i do. one dvr/hd box in my living room. then every other room gets channels 2-70something. so i have 1 dvr box and 4 other rooms hooked up.

More than anything, I get worried a fricking thunderstorm will fly over the second Drew Brees throws a game winning TD pass with 30 seconds left in the game. It rains hard in New Orleans too much to deal with satellite. Now I realize you may lose service only a handful of times a year, but just not worth the risk.
plus I hate DTV's customer service.

Has anyone still under contract been allowed to cancel due to the channel block? I have less than a year left.

I did this, and I was greeted with a "that's illegal" answer I talked to the guy for a while, and he eventually sent me to the retention team. I just started my DTV service last year, so I am not a valued customer yet. They offered me NFL ticket with $8/month off plus $5 off my bill for 12 months and an instant $50 credit. I will call back in a bit and try to get a better deal by saying I don't want the ticket anymore, that I jumped the gun and it's still not making up for the loss of my saints. It may or may not work, but I am jealous of all the great deals you fools are getting

Damn that sucks. I was straight up with the guy. I told him I wasn't going to threaten him with an attempt to cancel, rather I just wanted to find a way to watch the Saints with Directv[quote]. I've heard of the billing address modification before, so I figured I'd give it a shot. He sounded glad that I mentioned it. He said it's not something they can offer out right, but it's doable.

I've been on numerous customer service calls with Directv, and they all differ depending on the person. If you don't like the way a conversation is going, tell them no thanks, hang up, and call right back. You'll get someone else and try again.

Remember to go straight to the cancellation department to do your negotiating.

How is that illegal? Just tell them you want to change your billing address even though the service is in New Orleans.

What if you were renting a property in Nola but lives in AZ and were paying the bill? Sounds completely legal to me

Not sure how it's illegal. The guy I had asked his supervisor who confirmed it was. Maybe I'll try again with someone else.

On a side note I called four times yesterday and got better deals each time. Now I am at the following: Sunday Ticket with $8 off per month, $15 off total bill per month for 5 months and a $50 one time credit. That puts me at $80 ahead. Not a bad deal in my opinion. I may call again today to get them to upgrade my ticket to max. Milk this shite boys!

So basically keep calling and telling them how unfair it is that you have to pay extra to watch something that is free normally and we pay monthly for already. Now being forced to pay extra to watch NFC games since they took the channel from us. That's how I sold it to them. Worked well

I'm actually trying to cancel, not fake cancel and they still won't let go.

I got Cox on the trigger waiting with 280+ channels, sports package, dvr, premium internet @ 50mbps, and no contract for 118 per month on a 2 year price lock.

Directv keeps trying and threatened me with the whole "still under contract for 8 months" BS. I told him IDGAF ETF me. He went silent like he wasn't expecting that. Now he calls me a 5 star premium customer blah, blah and offered me to add 2 more of my rooms for free and discount my bill, etc. I told him that still doesn't give me back CBS. He said they'd have that resolved in a few days. I told him I have to think about it.

Waiting on the Cox rep to call me back this morning to see what we can do about my ETF situation. I'm switching.

I've got 9 recievers with DTV and now no Fox 8 which is a big deal to me.

I also have the premium package.

Is it really worth it for me to threaten to cancel and at least try to get the Sunday Ticket for free, or get some kind of reduction on my bill?

It would be a huge pain in my arse if they called my bluff and I had to change over to Cox or Uverse.

U verse is not an option in my area and I refuse to call and haggle with these people.
Screw it! I'm going to get an antenna as soon as I figure out which one will work best!
