I know my fellow saints fans we need DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE, with our first round pick I would love for us to get Solomon Thomas or Derek Barnett, but if Keizer is there for round 2 I think he's too hard to pass up, I'm almost tempted to take him with our 1st if Solomon Thomas is off the board

I don't think he's as good as they think. I would pass on him none of these qb's look very good except Watson to me

There's no QB in this draft worth taking before the third round

Watson looked like a third rounder to me in most games. Check out the Pitt game.

More of what he did to get that ring

But most QBs dominate Bama like that, and he just happened to do it twice

I don't love any of the QBs this year. If we can get a good defensive lineman or corner in round 2, take him over all the QBs. If there's a QB in the 3rd at a great value, then we take a look IMO.

Watson looked really good against a Bama Defense that have many future NFL players on their defense. Watson showed what he can do against NFL players.

As day one starters, I'm not high on any of them either but that’s not what the Saints would be looking for. I think sitting behind Brees provides the perfect "incubator" type environment for a Deshaun Watson or Pat Mahomes to grow in behind the scenes before ever having be thought of as a starter.

Watson's talent & affinity of being a winner is well documented but he has aspects of his game that needs to be addressed. He has never taken a snap under center. Same goes for Mahomes.

While that may seem like a small matter, it's really not. The steps (3 step, 5 step, 7 step) from under center are timing mechanisms as to when when receivers are supposed to have reached the top of their route. The routes run on certain drops by the QB go in sync with the drop. It takes time to get that timing down when you have never done that before.

Mahomes is just as gifted athletically as Watson while having the bigger arm. He is going to have a major adjustment in front of him from college to the pros because of the system he played in at Texas Tech. He knows how to be a pro. He grew up around professional players & was exposed to how a professional lockeroom operates being that his dad was a MLB pitcher.

quote:

Mahomes, now a sophomore quarterback at Texas Tech, grew up in Major League dugouts, watching his father, Pat, pitch for six Major League teams in 12 seasons.

“During spring training I bought him a plastic bat with one of those little balls and he would never go to bed,” the elder Mahomes said. “He would always want to hit with it. ... I would lay on the bed and he would hit the ball all over the condo.”

And while Mahomes didn’t realize it at the time, as the years passed, he began to have an advantage over his peers.

He has met Derek Jeter, been on the field at the World Series and even went back-and-forth hitting off a tee at Yankee Stadium with Alex Rodriguez,

“You are around it and get a lot more practice,” Mahomes said. “I was just having fun with my dad, throwing baseballs around.”

Pat Mahomes added: “He basically grew up in the clubhouse with me. When he turned 5 years old, I was playing with the Mets at the time and we went to the NLCS, and then the next year to the World Series.

“For me to be honest, though, I never thought he would be a football player.”

This article is a pretty good breakdown of Mahomes but the most important part is at the end.

quote:

Mahomes has all the tools. After watching the tape, it's hard to deny it. How his skill set will translate into an NFL offense—where he will have to learn a full playbook, study protections and learn to identify an endless range of defensive coverages—remains to be seen. A few mock drafts have Mahomes being selected on day two of the draft, where he can likely sit behind an already established quarterback. All of it adds up to make Mahomes one of the most intriguing prospects in the draft.

I 100% don't want us drafting a QB. I about 200% don't want us drafting Deshone fricking Kizer. I don't think he'll be a good NFL QB at all, and a lot of experts are hyping him up WAY WAY too much. I'd completely stay away from him, and you suggesting we take him in the 2nd round when we need to go pretty much all defense is pretty embarrassing.

Trabisky will be a player...but will take a couple of years, like Aaron Rogers...good feet/speed, good size. strong arm, accurate...could us another year of college, but he will go in the first so he'd be dumb not to come out.

Remember that. Very dangerous to judge a player on one game.

I happen to like Kizer. I like seeing him make tough throws from the pocket. Live arm and can eat up yards whenever he tucks and runs.

But I'm not sure he processes the game fast enough to hold up against NFL defenses.

If he slides all the way to the 3rd round, might need to grab him up.

Yeah I'd take him in the 2nd or 3rd round for sure ( I'm also of the mindset that it'll probably take too long for a bunch of young defensive players to really click before Brees is done with us). He has a lot of prototype skills that I think could be groomed into a productive NFL qb in a few years, especially if he somehow fell to 2nd.
