Actually he has good speed for his size. I know he's rough around the edges but I don't think its anything our coachs can't fix up.

He had 15 tds / 50 rec, 1011yds / 18.7 avg. Considering his low reception count, guy is very productive. And from what I understand he's a good and willing blocker. You see bust potential, I see the opposite.

I want a big, physical receiver to match up against defenses like Seattle and the 49ers.

I'm starting to think I want this, as well.

So who is that?
Besides Evans.

The fact he didn't try to improve his 40 from the combine is worrisome.

Kelvin Benjamin screams bust. Weighed in 17 pounds overweight at his pro day. He runs sloppy routes and has the dropsies. Stills is not a burner he does not play to his 4.38 speed. Joe Morgan just came off acl injury and had yet to play a full season. A fast speedy guy is the Seahawks secondary weakness just look at what ty hilton did to them. They can't match up against small fast quick burners because they're so big.

This is a highlight reel of Matthews WR Vandy.
This guy does it all. YAC. Separates from the DB's. Looks good off the line. Catches with his hands. Very polished

Like I said, take away that one big game and he falls down to earth. He's only cracked 100 3 times last year and is so up and down I don't like to spend a 1st rounder on that.

Meachem had better numbers and was a little bit more consistent and he didn't pan out.

I just think for a 1st rounder I want an instant-contributor not a project

NFL network had a stat on Benjamin based on his weight of 240lbs. Only 2 WRs in the NFL history have officially weighed that much, and i dont even remember their names. They were terrible and out of the league in 2-3 years

If you want to be nit picky of 1 lb then I guess that could be true, but Calvin Johnson Weighed 239 lbs at the combine.

I have mixed feelings on the WRs in this draft; there's a lot of talent in just about every type of WR...speed burners, Big Target, Possession. I guess it just depends on what direction Payton wants to go in. Unless the damn refs start calling holding on the line by the DB, teams better look like getting Wrs who are physically capable of shedding them. All the speed in the world won't help if they never get off the line of scrimmage.

My gut says we might look at a guy like Brandon Coleman out of Rutgers somewhere later in the draft, if he's there in the 4th or 5th round. Has some issues but he certainly has the size and ability to get off the line and get open.

quote:

Brandon Coleman, WR, Rutgers
Height: 6-6. Weight: 220.
Projected 40 Time: 4.59.
Projected Round (2014): 2-3
The biggest question about Coleman is if he has enough speed for the NFL. The senior started out this season with nine receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns against Fresno State. Coleman fell quiet after that, and many believe a preseason knee injury slowed him down all year. He had 33 receptions for 538 yards with four touchdowns in 2013. Coleman decided to enter the 2014 NFL Draft, but he should have returned to Rutgers.

Coleman isn't a Senior; he's a junior. Additionally, most draft experts are projecting 4th or 5th round.

Johnson also ran a 4.35 40 at the combine.. almost 3 tenths of a second faster than Benjamin. If he was even close to that fast his weight wouldn't even be mentioned.

I preached about consistency on the first page of this thread.. Benjamin is not consistent. Do not want.

I would like to see us draft Donte Moncrief, I think he will turn out to be a special player.

Evans is the guy I want the most outside of Watkins, but I know he won't be there. I'm fine with Matthews in the 2nd if he's there.

Toon fits the mold but it looked like he was benched last year (not active after game 10). I'll hope for him as long as he is on the roster. It looks like more of that than any expectation at this point.

He drops balls, and I don't think he's the answer.

It will be tough to pass up on Cooks and OBJ, but I think I'm with the majority in taking Matthews. small(er) school guy, might feel like he has more to work for. The more I watch OBJ play, the more I like him, but realistically he's not filling a need. Maybe it's just me.

I'd rather draft a CB or Mosley in the first so we don't have to make this decision.

I like Kelvin Benjamin. I don't see why so many people on ST are down on him. It's a deep WR class so I'll be happy with whomever we get in the 1st-2nd round.

Benjamin, Beckham Jr, Cooks, Matthews, Moncrief, Landry.

i think people like him as a 2nd rounder, but as a 1st rounder he just isn't consistent enough. his size is a big plus, but he even ran slower than jimmy's 40 (4.56) and jimmy was 20lbs heavier.

JG is heavier, +1inch in height, +6 inches on vertical, +1inch on broad, faster cone, faster shuttle.

if JG can't get separation on some DBs, what makes you guys think benjamin will?
