Why is Collins going to a team he may not even start on?
That's what I want to know.

Because Jerry Jones lined up local endorsement contracts to ensure that Collins gets paid just as if he were a first round draft pick.

Makes you wonder. Did the Saints try to do the same thing? I am guessing they did and Collins just wanted to get away.

If you ever have a 1 in 32 chance to win the powerball and don't win, you bet your sorry arse you blew it.

So you would rather the possibility of drafting a player who might have gone to jail (because no teams knew the real story) over a pick who you know will be on the team?

He was never going to jail. He was never even a suspect. Saints are his home state team. We new his character and should have been the team to step forward. As far as the risk, it was very minimal. Even 3rd round picks can be busts. There have been plenty of 3rd round bust so even our 3rd round pick aren't guaranteed. The CB we did draft in the 3rd has baggage. So what.

NO we blew it. We were his home state team and should have been the team that stepped forward.

I assume the Saints didn't want to add a 1st round pick as a free agent as much as Dallas did. He would have been a great addition to this team for many years to come.

So what if his agent said he wouldn't sign. His agent said a lot of things that indicated he did not know the rules. He would have signed. He would not have sat out all year earning zero. I would have done a risk / reward analysis and would have taken the chance. I said this many times on this forum during the draft. If Goodell blackballed him (and I would not be a bit surprised if he did) Collins should file a lawsuit against the NFL.

Did it ever occur to some of you that maybe he didn't want to stay in LA after all of this? Could you really blame him?

There's also a lot of talk he wants to play tackle which is not a fit here.

Quit acting like 15 year old girls that got dumped.

It's make sense, but Dallas is projecting him at left guard. He got a fully guarantee contract, tax free in home games, and pretty much guarantee starter. Can't ask for more.

@nick_underhill: La'el Collins received a $21K signing bonus as part of his deal with Dallas, I'm told.

I still think we should have burned a 6th or 7th round pick on him. I guess three 1st rounders would have just seemed greedy though.

Considering the shite hand he was dealt, this is correct. And before people whine we all know the girl and baby got a much worse hand, we're talking football here. How sad the dude got a $21k "bonus" when he should have been getting millions for his bonus. Like you said though, at least all 3 years are guaranteed and all home games are tax free for the state. Plus, if he does start soon, he will be able to renegotiate his contract after 2 years and he will get a monster deal if he plays as he should. Also, sounds like he wants to play in Dallas so he got to pick his team which nobody drafted does.

With no state income tax and Dez and Randy Gregory reopening the White House, we never had a chance.

As much as the Saint rebel against the NFL and espn there is no explanation other then they blew it to explain the way this shook out. The agent was blowing smoke and everyone knew it, how are you going to not play if drafted but play as a free agent making pocket change AND he would be playing for the Saint.....IN HIS COLLEGE TOWN WITH HIS FAMILY....and you think he's going to sit lol. Should have took the kid in the 5th and handled whatever came of it. This was the epitome of dumb, Miles even vouched for the kid, he's never had AAAAAANY discipline issues and now he kills someone lol. FYI, I have no idea why he didn't take an independent polygraph test prior to the draft to at least establish some credibility.

He did take the polygraph before the draft and all the teams knew about it.
