I'm not a fan of Michael Wilbon (ESPN PTI), but he did make a decent point about how an 18 game season can effect the NFL. In particular he was discussing the Eagles QBs Kolb and Vick. He suggested that the Eagles QBs split games so to conserve the longevity of the players during the season (ex baseball pitchers). While I understand you want your best QB to be in every game (and timing with WRs is an important issue too);you could use your best QB for a majority of games and let your #2 handle the others. The idea being to save your starter for the play offs. Lets face it, 18 games plus playoffs will be a strain at every position.

That would be a disaster for the NFL. They want the superstar QBs out there all the time. frick the 18 game season.

No 18 game season

They'll be playing till late February. That don't bode well for the yankee cities with teams

I don't want an 18 game schedule. The NFL is fine just like it is.

And they won't play till Feb....there will be 2 less pre-season games, so the reg. season will start 2 weeks earlier.

Cut Preseason all together then have 18 games. So first couple of weeks it would be like preseason.

It's happening but it will be a disaster. They'll run the risk of last week's game being Chase Daniel versus Charlie Whitehurst. Yeah... that would have been good for ratings.

My problem with this is the overall quality of football will suffer. 1) Players will have less time to learn the playbook and get their timing down. 2) 18 games means expanding rosters which means players normally on the practice squad will see playing time.

We'll see more mental mistakes, penalities, etc and games will be longer and a little more painful to watch IMO. Keep it at 16 games DAMMIT!

Quarterback and Pitcher are two different beasts...

Quarterbacks need to develop rhythm since at most they may throw 40 times a game.

Pitching is a bit different... I wilbon for his foolishness

i am opposed to any changes in the NFL right now. I mean everything is fine why frick with it? i dont even like this change to the OT rules. I would have preferred going with the NCAA system but start the teams on the 50

The NFL needs to stay exactly like it is, but put a $5 million/year salary cap on every player. If they don't like it, then go flip burgers for a living. If they strike, bring in someone willing to play for that type of money. I will watch pro football with strike players just as much as the regulars.

Even worse, they run the risk of playoffs and superbowls decised by such matchups.

As banged up as the Saints were in the playoff game, imagine 2 more regular season games. Total disaster for the greedy NFL owners.

What I don't get about the 18 game season is it's supposedly in response to season ticket holders upset that they have to pay full price for shitty preseason games. How are they going to give the players more compensation if they don't charge ticket holders more?

Screw an 18 game season. The Saints this season are a perfect example of why not to implement an 18 game season, injuries. 16 games is a gruelling schedule already and any more is just going to make it a league of injuries. The only change I want to see in the NFL right now is a salary cap for rookies. Sam Bradford looks great and probably will be a superstar QB in a few years but to be a rookie and come in and make just as much or more money than people like Brees, Brady, or Manning is ludicrous. The more you see that happen, the more Jamarcuses will come out.

Totally disagree, these are pros man they have mini-camps and year round meetings. If it takes 6 weeks of practice and 4
shite scrimages to get ready for the season you're doing something wrong. To pay full price to see some of these shite scrimages is the crux of the fans complaint. Discount those tix by half and keep it the way it is.

The owners KNOW they will get more $ for broadcast rights...NOT by raising ticket prices !
