I said something along the lines of "Why do you want these high mileage players so bad?"

And then he says "So we're not going to sign any veterans."

Genius.

Though I do have to say Champ kind of falls in line with that.

Yes, it does. I'm actually surprised about this. The only player fitting that description that I wanted was Steve Smith because he can still play.

What were his injury issues last year?

He played over a thousand snaps in the regular season.

Get him to play in obvious passing situations would be ideal.

Even at his age he's probably still better than Robinson and White. I'd take him.

Yeah, I think if we did wind up signing him, he'd be rotational. Turnovers are the emphasis, and he could be effective in a limited role. Wouldn't want to thrust him into the starting lineup.

"A Seahawks player pushed his foot off Bailey’s(left foot). The Broncos left cornerback felt something strain on the bottom middle of his foot."

Haven't seen what the exact injury was, but it happened in preseason this past year.

He was pretty good for a good portion of the season, but found himself injured and missed more time than he should have.

He played 95% of the defensive snaps in 2012 and didn't miss a game.

Same injury as Ryan Clady in 2013, only Champ Bailey was able to return after missing almost all the games.

After looking at it, last season was his most time missed since 2008(7 games). He missed 3 in 2011 and 1 in 2010.

The fact that they rushed him back too early(and Fox said as much) caused a set back that caused him to miss more time than he otherwise would have.

So I think the injury thing is overblown. The real question is how effective can he be at 36.

Depending on what we pay for him, I'd support this. Use him situationally and as a mentor to the younger guys and it adds more depth at a position where we need some. If we can get him at or just above vet min, it's a low risk, high reward scenario.

The story from Triplett-

Obviously, the enthusiasm over the 35-year-old Bailey should be tempered a bit. The Denver Broncos chose to release him, and they’re in the exact same boat as the Saints -- a team going “all-in” to win right now.

Still, the idea of signing Bailey is a fascinating proposition. He’s one of the NFL’s all-time great cornerbacks, who would match wits in practice every day with another 35-year-old future Hall of Famer in quarterback Drew Brees. And if nothing else, Bailey would be a great addition to the locker room with one of the league’s rising young defenses.

Bailey is not a lock-down cornerback anymore. But that’s not what the Saints need (and it’s certainly not what they can afford at this point).

New Orleans has an outstanding No. 1 corner in his prime right now in Keenan Lewis, an outstanding safety in his prime in Jairus Byrd, and an up-and-coming star in safety Kenny Vaccaro.

Bailey could fit in nicely as a savvy veteran who would compete for the No. 2 job with unproven youngsters Corey White and Patrick Robinson. Or perhaps he could even play safety, which he is reportedly willing to consider, or some sort of hybrid role in nickel and dime packages.

It’s similar to the Saints’ line of thinking when they showed interest in veteran cornerback Brandon Browner this offseason.

Someone asked on Twitter why the Saints didn’t just keep Jabari Greer. I agree that a healthy Greer would be an ideal fit. But Greer’s knee injury remains a question mark for now.

IF we signed him I could see him playing a similar role as Jenkins/Charles Woodson (late GB version). Flex player that can man the slot, shift outside, and play the third safety role. Kind of a jack of all trades and a wild card on defense. I don't think he would walk in as our #2, but would be a good safety net.
