Didn't realize Marino won a super bowl.
We've had some really good teams in the past, were just upset a few years we had superbowl caliber teams.

Dude, the two defining aspects of Marino's career are:
1. Fantastic QB
2. No Superbowl
Not sure if you know this, but the Saints won the Superbowl in 2009. Ipso facto your argument is wrong.

Did you watch the game last night? If so, did you miss the intro where ESPN displayed something to the extent of the Saints being the second best NFC team under Payton over last ten years?
We had to rebuild the team. It started last season. It will be resolved soon.
Oh, and there are 11 NFL teams with winning records at the moment. The NFL isn't setup for sustained success. What some teams are doing, like the Patriots, is the exception, not the rule.

That is correct, I would say that the Saints org needs to copy the Pats example in every way, but, it all starts with the Ownership. The Saints have unstable ownership and that can't be remedied or copied. The Pat have very stable and solid ownership.

What year did Marino win the Super Bowl? I keep forgetting.

You could easily argue that this is not just an exception.... it is a statistical anomaly we will likely not see again in our life times. I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, I'd love if someone could find them, but the fact that they've won 80%+ of their games over a 15 year period is astonishing, especially considering the continuous push towards 32 8-8 teams in the NFL. You have to look at their body of work since Tom Brady stepped in (or since BB took over, your pick) and really consider if it's tGOAT run in sports ever. Seriously.

This. I think we had to know that the Benson family feud was a bad omen for this season. It truly has shown that the saying "crap rolls down-hill" is an accurate saying.
My stance as far as Sean Payton goes is this: I appreciate all the good things he's done as the Saints head coach, which is more than any other Saints coach in history. Hell, the man led the Saints to a Super Bowl championship, and I'll always respect him for that.
But those good days are past. Two disappointing seasons in a row and two absolutely horrific defenses in a row is a sign that it's best for everyone if Sean Payton moves on. I really feel like the man's heart is not in this organization anymore. He doesn't even live in New Orleans.
I just hope the Bensons get their act together and find stability, if not for their family harmony, at least for the sake of the organization. Get a new coach in here who is dedicated to the organization and has fresh ideas, and this team will rebound.

The problem has been player personnel decisions. Nothing else.

I agree with this 100%.

They lucked out and ended up with belichick. That's the main difference, not ownership. Ownership makes little difference in a salary cap world, unless you have one that has to have his hands on everything like Jerry Jones.

Ownership provides stability, oversight, management and quality-control.
The Owner is the person to decide what kind of GM to hire. If you hire a football-guy for GM, then the GM can directly manage and supervise the Head Coach. The Saints are structured such that nobody but the Ownership is in charge of the head coach. That's because the GM Loomis is a bean counter accountant and not qualified to supervise a head coach.
The OWNERSHIP provides direct supervision of the GM and head coach. That part of Ownership is very important and not "hands-off".

Video: 3-0
Deflate: 1-2
I'll take either

I see the point you are making and I agree.
TBH, Brees is superior to Marino and Payton is not nearly as good as Shula.

shite Saints fans and LSU fans are in the same boat this year. Looking back on past accomplishments, because neither future looks bright.
