So what your trying to say is that Brown wasn't playing terrible and the Rams game wasn't the last straw for Brown performing poorly?

Brees was taking to many hits this year and the change was needed to be made. (Hindsight) Payton probably wishes he would have made the move earlier.

After Armsteads first career start in Carolina, the offensive line played pretty well over a 3 game stretch (TB, Philly, Seattle).

If it's not performance base would Payton have replaced Brown if he was playing well? Especially, while we were making a playoff push for seeding.

If cheap enough I would take Brown as a backup in a heartbeat. But no, SP didn't bench him on purpose to get a cheaper deal this year from him.

100%

You don't bench your LT if you don't have to. Crazy to suggest otherwise.

Nah, Payton definitely risked the 2 seed and playoff wins to save a few million on a back up OT.

payton didn't want to win the superbowl because his FA would cost more. that's why we lost to seattle, i'm sure of it now.

Lol if people think Saints are actually going to resign this dude. I'm pretty sure they don't want him and he probably is pissed to be here at this point.

Absolutely not. He lacks the strength to be effective in the run game, and he's poor against power rushers.

If you did that without knowing it on purpose then you might be a secret genius.

CSP would never bench a player based on cap considerations for next year in the middle of playing for the #2 seed.
