1987. First playoff game ever. The Vikings crush us 44-10.
I hate the Vikings to this day for that beatdown.
eta: Close second- the Ricky Williams draft fiasco

the missed extra point
AB throwing the ball 20 yards behind him and laughing about it on the way to the sideline....in fact pretty much any stupid play AB ever made pissed me off.

Wow. Was looking for video of Rice spiking the ball and found this article.
Proof of Pay for Performance
The NFL has changed so much since back in the day.

Bobby Hebert getting in a pissing match with Finks and holding out the entire 1990 season.
Followed by the ensuing "John Fourcade Era."
Followed by trading a 1, 2, and 3 for Steve Walsh.
1990 could have been our year. Thanks, bobby.

And the Monday Night Meltdown against Oakland in 1979. All they had to do to get the first winning season and maybe a playoff berth was not blow a 21 point lead in 20 minutes on national TV.
The Saints then went on to lose 16 of their next 18 games. That was literally the end of their first memorable era.

I was at this game as a young kid with my dad and grandpa sitting in that endzone. When it happened my grandpa just looked over at me and said, "If you're going to be Saints fan, don't get upset at things like this, just get used to it." Wish he would have made it to see the 2006-now era of Saints football.

Watching Jake ride the bench while an obviously injured Brooks shite away the panthers game and miss the playoffs pisses me off more.

I can't remember if it was 02 or 03, but all the Saints had to do was win 1 of the final 4 games, all which were against terrible teams, in order to make the playoffs. They lost all 4 and missed the playoffs.
I remember watching them play the Bengals and they made the Bengals look like a Superbowl contender

Another from back in the day: the 1982 season. It was the strike year. The Saints still had never had a playoff berth.
That year they extended the playoffs to like 16 teams. Because of that, every team that finished 4-5 made the playoffs.
EXCEPT THE SAINTS. They lost EVERY tiebreaker.
And then 1983. They missed the playoffs because Bum passed up a Morten Andersen FG to punt. The rams drove down the field and kicked a FG and the Saints missed a playoff berth again.
I hate Mike Lansford more than any opposing player. EVER.

It was 02, and yes the bengals were complete crap that year and we still made them look like world champs

Lets not forget that Jake's first year as a panther he brought them to the superbowl, granted they didn't win but still, he was just sitting on our bench while brooks smiled at every bonehead play he made, which was about every other one.

That Cleveland game was my 1st saints game and I was also in that endzone. I'll never forget it because it was also the first time I had that wtf did that just happen saints stare

some good stuff in here, for me I get a lot more pissed off about organizational decisions over specific games and performances. Those game scenarios are more disappointments than pissoffs to me. Haslett sticking with Brooks is a good example. It was bad not because of the smiling clown QB himself but because they would not insert Delhomme. Carl Smith was an abomination of a coordinator but it was worse that no one removed him. Conversely, Payton replaced his good friend DC Gary Gibbs. I submit if he did not make that move Payton might no longer be the coach here.
Okay, the history book of Saints folly is long and deep. I'm not gonna try and figure out which one is most but just some of the most prominent that come to mind first...
-destined to failure from before the start: expansion team Saints trade away a decent starting center, the #1 overall draft pick, and a 3rd & 7th Rd pick for Johnny Unitas' backup QB who had thrown 208 NFL passes. That #1, Bubba Smith was not HOF but did make some All Pro & Pro Bowls, he was a key element of powerful Colts teams. That QB, Cuozzo, couldn't even keep the starting job on an expansion team over a converted RB (Kilmer). 7TD/12INT later he was done in NOLA and never was more than a backup elsewhere for a few years.
Firing Hank Stram after 2 years. Some may quibble with this but I do think he was a brilliant offensive innovator way ahead of his time. Unfortunately he took over when cocaine use in the NFL was exploding into a major problem (the Saints might have been the worst of all teams)
Hiring Ditka- use this guy as a reminder of whenever the call is to bring in a "name" player or coach. I hoped but inside I knew this was not the answer. What friggin circus show without football substance.
Ricky Williams trade- I had no real issue about RW even with his psychological issues and eccentric self. He gained over 3000yds in 3 NOLA yrs even with injuries. The price of the trade was so outlandish I doubt if it will ever get off The Worst NFL Trades of Alltime List. At least when Mueller came in he traded RW away for a decent recouping of some value lost.
Benson and moving- no matter how you cut it he did at least entertain the idea. No greater foul could ever be imagined against any whodat lifer.

After reading the first three posts in this thread I am pissed now. Thanks.
I'll go with the 0-4 start in 07. Brees was so bad the first four games of that year. I remember he was literally afraid to throw it farther than 5 yards down the field. Deuce blowing out his knee on a fluke pass play. Devery dropping critical passes. Jdavid and Bullocks getting burned every play. Worst 4 games ever!
Then ESPN and everyone was calling 06 a fluke and saying the team was just "riding that wave of emotion" BS.
