yeah, the Saints have pivoted in a different direction the last few years than what people think they might do.

and even Cam Jordan wasn't necessarily somebody I thought we could get. He fell to us because a lot of teams picked a QB that year. C. Ponder to the Vikings for example... what a bizarre pick. I'm sure their fans were kind of like WTF?

Robinson is a good player but sometimes when a prospect seems like a slam dunk it scares me. I don't have any good reasoning for being a skeptic. Obviously some of the stuff I said last post was oozing with sarcasm. Except the part about becoming a fan of his right away if we picked him. The defense is in a bad way right now with depth so we need all the help we can get.

one thing I think would be cool if we did do it would be to double dip in Rounds 1 and 2 on the D-line since the class is full of prospects. A few years ago the Panthers did that with Lotulelei and K. Short and look what they did this past year when healthy at the same time.

having said that, I'd rather see us get a starter in free agency if possible and then draft D-line in Round 1 or 2. Still a little worried about player development under Bill Johnson. Course, if you hit on the right player with great talent and work ethic that wouldn't be a problem going forward.

1st Round

1st choice - I would prefer to complete the LB Corps with Jack or Jaylon if either are available.

2nd choice - Best Defensive End available - Really like everything I have read on Dodd and the talent pool will be much more shallow there by our 2nd pick as oppose to DT where the depth there this year will allow us to come back and still get a great value player at the same position in round 2.

I would not lose my mind over going DT 1st but It would be wiser IMO to utilize the depth of the draft at the positions it is offered so we can address as many needs as possible with impact players vs BPA.

Depending on how the draft unfolds you would be leaving later picks to be used on reaches due to the position being ravaged before we could address it leaving you with less impact starters and potentially more busts.

Haha yeah you did, IIRC we were in the same boat regarding Gregory.

It's not our biggest need, but I really like Darron Lee. Very athletic LB, good in coverage and can blitz too. Right now I've seem him slotted in the low-mid 20s. However after the combine I could see that rise because he should kill it, and supposedly is going to put on some weight. However 12 still may be a bit too high for him so I'm not holding my breath, but I do like him as a prospect.

Other than that I like all the top-end DTs, just some more than others. Rankins, Reed, Butler and Robinson are probably my favorite 4 tho right now. Hard to order them tho, I'd need to watch a bit more, but those first 3 are probably my favorite. If we do go DT in the first I'd love to get Deion Jones in the second at LB(assuming we pass/there aren't any guards worthy).

I will note tho if Jack(not happening) or Smith(unlikely) fall, that's an insta-pick for me personally.

Mayock on a Saints strategy of waiting later for DT...

"I think what you're going to see happening is that interior defensive line group, and I've had this discussion with a lot of people, this is how good it is," Mayock said. "You can wait until the third or fourth round this year and get a defensive tackle that in past drafts was a first- or second-rounder. ...

"So a lot of teams are going to wait until the third or fourth round to get that defensive tackle they need, because he's still going to be on the board. You're going to get a second-rounder instead of a fourth-rounder.

"So it gives you an opportunity to go and look at some other places."

I like Spence from a talent perspective - I think he's an outstanding player. I'm just concerned about his CC, plus I'm not so sure a pass rusher on the outside is our biggest need of the bunch. As far as Buckner, I highly doubt he'd be available at 12 so I wasn't even considering him.

Good to see you again buddy

I'm getting into full draft mode myself.

I really want shaq Lawson but he seems a bit of a reach at 12.

What's going on Los

Yeah I like Shaq, I don't think 12 would be too high if they decided to go the DE route.

Maybe I'm entirely missing it, but I'm surprised nobody is bringing up Kikaha. I fee we used him more and more as a pure pass rusher last year. He had some spark.

We pull a DT to take away pressure from him and Cam Jordan and...well, that looks veeery nice to me. And we could use picks for something else. Unless we just want the pure DE rusher, maybe so, I guess I'm missing it.

On that note, if we really can get that top-talent DE in the second round, I just drool over either Myles Jack or ol' boy from Notre Dame. If either is available, that's probably best player available. And that really works to complete a rather promising LB corpse. Maybe I'm just so in love with those LB's, and that's why I feel it's more enticing than pulling a DE over DT.

I think people aren't mentioning Kikaha because he fell of the face of the earth the second half of the season. Holding out hope he can develop into something special because he had some flashes early in the season. Love his motor.

Jack is gone in the top 10, 100% of drafts I've seen. He's put of our range. I think where Smith goes will be determined by his recovery from injury before the draft, he could have been a top 5 pick before the injury. I want him real bad, if he drops to us and we don't pick him I am going to be PISSED

That was really due to an ankle injury that bothered him for a solid month.

Better Dline and being used right will help him even more.

Does anyone think Shaq Lawson could still be on the board by the time the Saints draft? Considering Jordan recent back surgery should the Saints prepare for the future now or wait. I think the Saints should consider drafting Reggie Ragland (LB) and strengthening their LB core.

Lawson is at 50/50 in my estimation of availability. Looking like a pretty good value/need IF there IMO

------------------
just to note this 2013 #9 overall that was the consensus #1 CB

The New York Daily News doesn’t expect the Jets to cut CB Dee Milliner.
Milliner has played in just 21 games since 2013. His $2.1M guaranteed should lock him into a spot. With Antonio Cromartie gone, Milliner will compete for the Jets’ No. 4 corner job.

Kikaha will be fine

He will be a sack machine when we get another big road grater or two in the draft or FA. He's just adjusting to not being able to push people out of his way like he did in college

What y'all think about trading 2nd rd pick for Brandon Marshall from Den?
Possibly allow us to pick BPA(DT/OG) while getting proven LB in 2nd(trade) and maybe Snagging a high potential WR in Mike Thomas from Southern Miss. in 3rd or 4th?

just thinking of different options...

The thing to remember when considering Alabama players is that the NFL has a PED testing program. Colleges are allowed to choose what they test for.
Coincidence that so many Alabama players don't live up to expectations?
