Zach Lowe Podcast on the Warriors (Pels related)

In his latest podcast LINK he discusses the Warriors with a beat writer and one of the things that gets repeated multiple times in multiple ways is just how much better the team is under Steve Kerr than Marc Jackson (who is comparable to Monty in many ways). For example, part of the reasoning for not trading Klay Thompson for Kevin Love was because management felt Klay was being held back by Jackson's coaching and the early returns suggest that is the case. They also make a point how Steve Kerr went out and got the best assistants his owners could throw piles of money at vs. Marc Jackson who was often concerned about who got credit. Part of me wants to miss the playoffs just to ensure that we get a new coach.
Also Pels related, when asked who he thought would be the toughest matchup in the playoffs for the Warriors, the reply was the Rockets because Beverly is the type of defender that can bother Curry and Howard is a mobile defensive big that can help out on Curry with hard hedging. The Pelicans have those types of players as well, so maybe tonight's game against the team with the best record in the league at home isn't an automatic loss.

I think we have a lot of reasons to be optimistic tonight.

Davis' toughest matchups on the offensive end are long, quick, power forwards or SF/PF tweeners.
I don't see that player on the Warriors. I'm expecting a big game from Davis.
Considering their backcourt has 2 of the best shooters in the league, I'm expecting hard hedge city for us on defense tonight unfortunately.
We'll probably have to drop 105+ on them to win. We're capable when you look at the matchups. If we lose I imagine it'll be because Green/Barnes are adequate matchups for Ryan Anderson. They're much deeper than us; and, if Kerr staggers the starters at all, we're in trouble. When Monty rolls out that craptastic bench emptying lineup, I'm expecting a minus 12-17 or so for that unit.

I do.

Well the Vegas win total is 42 wouldn't that mean that the team met expectations? Most fans before the season thought they team would be around .500 wouldn't that mean that Montyand the team had met expectations?

Honestly, I think the Pels are going to flat out bury the Dubs tonight.
I say that because AD knows this is his only TNT game this year, he's a superstar, and he's going to make their Execs pay.

Met Vegas' expectations. Not necessarily internal expectations.

Davis is "Team Monty"
If this is true, you need to get a GM who will competently build around Monty. I'm not sure how much is smoke or fire when it comes to Davis being "Team Monty". His dad is not a Monty fan. I'm sure he likes Monty the person. However, if you make the right hire, Davis will surely get over it when he's actually, you know, playing in the postseason cause his coach doesn't suck.

You got Jrue and Anderson back this year while adding Asik, the big man you've needed for your "defensive scheme". Davis has gone from "great" to "un-fricking-believable". An 8 win increase is an absolute joke. Davis will likely finish the season with anywhere between a 20-30 win metric if he can remain healthy.
It's the simple things that truly show me how unbelievably inept Monty is.
- We are the only team in the league that doesn't make a concerted effort to get a 2 for 1 at the end of quarters. In fact, it often appears to be a concerted effort to avoid 2 for 1.
- He might be the only coach in the league who will call timeouts when his team has the momentum and the crowd is into the game.
- The little nuances of the game that he just doesn't get. Example: Thunder are inbounding the ball under their rim with 19 seconds left on the shot clock. They have 3 seconds to get it across half court. We don't make ANY effort to cause the 3 second violation and Westbrook ends up just wildly lobbing the ball into the front court and no one is covering the outlet man.
The game just seems entirely to fast for him. He can't make on the spot decisions at all.

With all due respect cause you keep bringing this up, Vegas was not expecting Anthony Davis to become the best player in the NBA through the first 20% of the season at the age of 22.

Your contributions to this thread aren't terrible as you are asking legitimate questions. Much better than your typical trolling.
However, I'm just very curious what your motivations are for constantly being on a Pelicans board. Its 9.30 on a Thursday. What are you doing? It just makes me wonder how much time you are actually on the internet if you spend this much time on a team message board for which you aren't even a fan. Are there not Rocket boards available for you to waste away? Do the rest of you Pels fans stalk Rockets boards and I'm just not aware. If so, maybe this is his form of payback? I'm just so confused!!!

Part of the podcast was commenting on how quickly Marc Jackson getting fired went from a big league story to a story nobody cared about thanks to Kerr and the fast start. Hornacek and Kerr are making the case for cerebral/crafty/not athletic former SGs. Who's makes the short list for that? David Wesley seems to recognize a lot of our problems during the telecasts.

I hadn't even considered that. I actually could get on board with this idea.

Can Joel Meyers be one of his assistant coaches?

Only if he does the broadcast from the sideline still.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't feel comfortable with Rivers being able to guard either Curry or Thompson. Someone is gonna go off from 3 this game, and I hope its Ryno
