At The Hive report on KCP

intriguing
LINK
quote:
KCP was a high usage, high efficiency player as a sophomore; put simply, he created his own shots and he made said shots
quote:
An important note from DraftExpress augmenting this: "[Caldwell-Pope] used more than twice as many possessions creating his own shot in the half court than any guard projected to be selected in the first round."
quote:
he was very, very active on the defensive glass (7.3 defensive rebounds per 40, pace adjusted, an equivalent rate to center prospect Alex Len) and rarely turned the ball over (11% turnover rate) despite his high usage.

Also from ATH
I've been trying not to push KCP too much because I just don't spend much time watching college basketball and figured I might be missing something with KCP compared to other prospects I don't know as well, but I respect Rohan a lot so him jumping on the KCP bandwagon tells me I'm probably not wrong.
quote:
Skills: KCP also projects as a plus defender, moving very well laterally, using his long arms (6'8" wingspan) and quickness to stay in front of guards, and generating a fair number of steals and blocks (2.5 and 0.6 per 40, pace adjusted). Next to the exceptional Victor Oladipo, KCP may legitimately be my favorite defensive wing prospect in the lottery.
...Conclusions: KCP's one of my five favorite players in this draft, joining Noel, Burke, Oladipo, and Otto Porter. I can't help but think he's going to be an absolute steal in the #10 range -- he shoots well, he generates his own shot, he hits the glass, and he defends. Those are four legitimate, valuable NBA skills, and I'd strongly consider taking him over the significantly more hyped Ben McLemore.

I'm starting to really like KCP as well. He could be a steal at 9 if Minnesota ends up getting him.

pick value doesn't mean better player.

Thanks for the heads up, but that wasn't what I was saying.

I really really love KCP as a player, I think he could be the steal of this draft.

And if Demps feels that way, then I'd rather him take him at 6 than risk him not being there at 9.
Unless of course you draft a player you have rated about equal to KCP at 6 that Minny also really likes, then if KCP is there at 9, you can make the trade. But I don't want to trade back until we know for sure what is there.

I agree (and I'm not saying necessarily to take him at 6). I hate the idea of really liking a player, and trading down and hoping he's there, especially based off of media mock drafts. KCP reminds me of a better version of Terrance Ross, who went earlier (8th) than any one in the media projected.

Pelicans GM Dell Demps also said they interviewed UNLV's Anthony Bennett.
11:15am - 25 Jun 13
Expectations-wise, Dell Demps said the No. 6 pick "could help you right away, or be a guy that can help you down the line."
Pelicans GM Dell Demps on the No. 6 pick: ``We just want to get a good player that fits.''
11:10am - 25 Jun 13
Asked if he's talked to Cavs about No. 1 pick, Demps said: "I wouldn't speculate or reveal any trade talks. That's not a good thing to do."
11:08am - 25 Jun 13
Along with draft workout, Demps said he met with Ben McLemore on Sunday and traveled to meet Victor Oladipo and Anthony Bennett

HaHa, I just noticed that. Im getting that feeling about this guy named Anthony Bennett playing in a Pelicans Uniform...

Considering their apparent interest in Copeland, and them liking big 3s/Tweeners/Stretch 4s...maybe they think he's a good fit?
Who knows?

Copeland is a good fit as a bench player, and fringe starter if he can guard 3s (I have no idea if he can). But at 6, you shouldn't be drafting for a bench player/fringe starter, which I think Bennett would be.

But if nobody falls, I think you HAVE to select Burke, he ripped the NCAA into shreds the whole year, & I just don't see him being a bust.
