In:
Holliday, Rivers, Pierre
Evans, Morrow
Miller
Davis, Anderson
Ajinca, Withey

Out:
MONTY
Roberts, Gordon, Smith, Aminu

Obviously look for SF and centers via free agency

I think a worthy coach couldn't find a better, younger team to come in and mold into a winner. I think we need someone with experience, George Karl definitely has that

Babbitt's defense is talked about entirely too much. It isn't that bad.

I don't mind Aminu at the 3; when we're healthy and our shooters are on the floor, we don't need him to score. Just rebound and be active on defense - he's good at both of those things. He just has to know his role.

So, you don't mind Aminu as a starter, but you want to take away an offensive guy and put in another defensive guy? Asik and Aminu on the floor at the same time would be the same abysmal offense that the team gets from the 3 and 5 right now. Aminu and Asik are both huge offensive liabilities.

Oh and to answer the OP I think the team needs health the most and a year playing together under their belt. Youngest and least healthy team in the league are the two biggest problems right now.

Does anyone else NOT overreact after every loss? There are 82 games and someone is going crazy after each one. One game doesn't make a season, mate.

If we were losing with a totally healthy roster then I could understand.

People just need to relax and accept this season for what it is and made hold out hope for a healthy roster to end the season where we may possibly get a glimpse of what we have going forward.

You know what you have at the three and the five - nothing. Injuries haven't deterred those two areas this season, it's a problem.

with a healthy lineup, you can play

1- holiday
2- Gordon
3- Evans
4- Anderson
5- Davis

Statistically speaking that is your best 5 man lineup. How many times were the Pels afforded to have all of those guys on the floor healthy at the same time?

Injuries to holiday, Evans, and Anderson have affected the ability to have your best 5 on the floor at a given time

As it stands now Davis is already logging 40% of the team's minutes at center (20% at PF) with a PER of 29 per 48 minutes of production (5 points higher than at PF).

Evans gets the majority of his minutes at the 3. I guess the question is why doesn't he get more of them? He's been hobbled. Let's see what happens to his role when he actually gets some rest over the ASB.

I'm not an apologist for Monty and especially Dell. They deserve criticism. But the final judgement on them and this team cannot be made until their intended core gets a few weeks of continuous run together

I have no problem with a crunch time lineup of Jrue, Gordon, Evans, Anderson and Davis - the numbers back it up that in the small sample this is the best lineup.

I do have a problem with the starters at the 3 and the 5. They provide nothing outside of Aminu's rebounding - I don't want Reke and Davis logging the chunk of their minutes at those positions.

Well either way, depth at those positions could be better. This will be our last year of AFA and Stiemsma. But I have no problem with Evans playing and starting at SF- he can still play his game" at that spot. Same with Davis at center. I was skeptical of him there at first but he has more than proved himself. And no one seems to mention how big and broad he is actually getting.

What i would like to see going forward:

Call up Pierre Jackson and let him get minutes with the 2nd unit at PG. Let's see what we have going into next year.

Let's give Rivers extended, consistent minutes. Let's see what we have going into next year.

Let's give Withey extended minutes, see what we have.

Same goes for guys like Babbit and even Ajinca.

Let's watch these guys over the 2nd half and see if Monty can actually develop players like people give him credit for. That way we can at least see if these guys can be solid rotational players. Good teams have guys like that who contribute night in and night out. Young and cheap.

In the meantime, if a deal comes up for Gordon then we jump on it.

I actually really like the way the team is built right now and think that when healthy they are a pretty deep team at every position except Center.

How many teams can say they have guys like Evans and Anderson coming off the bench? Then add a guy like Morrow who is one of the best 3 pt shooters in the league.

The Pelicans have a pretty damn strong 2 deep roster at 4 positions with 2 guys who are versatile enough to play at least 2 positions at a high level (Davis and Evans). If the Pelicans could have stayed healthy and kept something like below going all season then I think they are a pretty strong team even with the depth weakness at Center. Just my opinion.

PG: Jrue 34 min
Committee 14 min

SG: Gordon 33
Evans 8
Committee 7

SF: Aminu 22
Evans 21
Committee 5

PF: Davis 15
Anderson 33

C: Davis 21
Committee 27

I'm sorry, but we should have never given away our picks for Holiday, that may have been Dell's worst move as our GM. Unless of course his follow-up moves fell through. But I'd give Holiday back and take our 2 1st rounders right now.

*Yes, I was all-aboard when it happened, emotions clouded my reasoning.

Based on what we have to work with now, when healthy?

I see us doing a salary dump of Gordon, bringing in a more rounded 3, and then looking to see what opportunities arise with regards to shooters and/or servicable bigs.

I'm leaning toward a new coach if we can get one who knows how to use a big man and run an offense, with Stan Van Gundy being my choice thanks to what he was able to do with Howard and an otherwise limited Magic roster.

Pierre Jackson looks to be a good bench scorer, though his defense is an unknown quantity.

Rivers' offense is coming along when he gets minutes on the floor.

We need to fill the hole at the 5 long-term, but I can see us getting away with a guy playing 20 minutes a night there if the idea is that Davis plays a lot of his minutes at the 5 with Anderson playing at the 4.

Trade Gordon to Charlotte for Ben Gordon's expiring contract and Bitchsmack, as Biyombo can either be a bench body or can be flipped to someone who wants a project or a $4m expiring contract for matching purposes.

Renounce Steamer's contract to create cap space if we can't find a taker for him by the deadline.

Move Evans to the starting 2 with Rivers behind him.

Sign a 3 for 2-3 seasons (Deng?) who can score but is able to cover for other guys' deficiencies on D.

Sign Pierre.

Tender Roberts, possibly looking for a trade.

Tender Miller.

Let Aminu walk.

Pick up Withey's option.

Feel out Smith about a new deal. If he wants too much, let him walk.

New lineup-

PG - Holliday, Roberts, Pierre
SG - Evans, Rivers, Morrow
SF - Deng, Miller, Babbitt
PF - Davis, Anderson, Smith
C - Ajinca, Withey, Biyombo

I'd say it's one of his best moves. I have a feeling you won't be able to see that until we see those picks turn into mediocre prospects and get a full season of Jrue running the team, but Jrue is going to prove you wrong.

I respect your opinions and input, and I thought it was great at the time too.
What I didn't realize then was that we only had the cap room for 1-2 guys, the fact that we went for another backcourt player and lopsided our roster is what concerns me now. I get that deals are not easy in the league for a number of reasons, but there are generally always more guards on the block than reliable bigs.
The fact that we opened the season confidently with Steimsma and Aminu starting is not good. Neither player is a threat offensively.
