Genrty has received tons of flack, obviously

But what do people make of these scrubs playing well in his system? Does it leave any hope for next season when we can get some new personnel in here? These guys play more as a team than our stars and actually move the ball around.

Without looking I'd guess tony Douglas and Luke Babbitt are enjoying the best stretches of their careers.

Cast offs like Frazier and James Ennis may have actually played their way into contracts. Ish and Dejean Jones before them. Jordan Hamilton, too.

what does it all mean?

Some players whose season high James Ennis has outscored (with 29):
Mike Conley
Goran Dragic
Tyreke Evans
Zach Randolph
Hassan Whiteside

In 433 minutes with the #Pelicans, Tim Frazier is averaging 0.383 free throw attempts per FGA. Kevin Durant's FTr is 0.361 this season.

Tim Frazier won't play enough games to qualify, but he'd be in top 10 of NBA in assists per game with #Pelicans (6.7 apg). 7 more in 1H

Luke Babbitt had 1 game of 20+ points in his first 251 career NBA games. He's done it 3 times in last 7 games. Babbitt 14 pts already in 1H

No idea, but Tim Frazier and Bryce Dejean Jones aren't going anywhere.

I try to compare them with what we have.

Would you rather use a roster spot on Alonzo Gee or James Ennis? Norris Cole or Tim Frazier?

That sort of thing.

It is certainly encouraging that they are playing well. Real rotation players would be nice. Same time, these are league wide nobodies playing out the string on a 30 win team in a very small sample size. Brian Roberts once put up 17 assists in a game and Norris Cole shot 44/38 with the Pels last year.

I do think it's indicative of how little the front line guys buy in/fit what Gentry is trying to do.

The question is how much roster turnover do we actually expect?

I put little to no thought in it at all.

I could care less what this D-League team is doing right now. The only way to judge these guys is how they play with our healthy team.
Tim Frazier and BDJ looked good then, and i hope they are on the team next year instead of Cole/Babbitt/Gee.

Don't put much stock into Ennis scoring 30 something points when the next best option to score is Luke Babbitt. It's an NBA team, sort of, they are goign to score 100 points. It has to come from somewhere.

And don't think the teams that are playing them prepare or give it there all against them. It's natural to not give a shite when the top 8 opposing players aren't playing against you.

Someone is gonna put up numbers for every team whether the team is totally devoid of talent or not an NBA team is good for 80 + points a night. Ennis, Frazier, Dejean Jones, et al being out of the league before being signed by the Pels tells you their true value IMO. These are end of the bench guys(or not on the roster) on winning teams

especially against the teams the Pels have played the past month.

the only one I think ends up being even a remote contributor is Frazier, but I don't think he's much more than a 3rd string guy.

Makes you wonder if our normal players either 1) did not buy into the system or 2) thought they knew more than the coaching staff or 3)just did not gel together.

Fraizer wasn't out of the league and neither was Ennis. These guys weren't playing in China or something. BDJ is a rookie.

Yeah the expectation is that they're end of bench guys but I'm confident they'll be a bit more(Fraizer and BDJ especially)

Its just a matter of how they keep developing

You do have to take it with a grain of salt because this happened at a soft part of the schedule and as others have said, the scoring is going to come from somewhere in the NBA. Philly's offensive rating is 98.6, not 75.

But these hungry scrubs do seem to be playing more like Gentry wants to play and that does raise a few questions. I am really questioning if it'd be a good idea to take someone like Dunn at 6. If Gentry is the coach we'd probably be better off trading back for a more versatile team player like Valentine or Luwawu. I know MM has said he thinks DeMetrius Jackson from Notre Dame would thrive in Gentry's system. I have no clue about him or if he's better than Frazier, but if they keep Gentry, you have to consider how guys you draft will fit. Often the unearthed gems of the draft aren't about hidden talent but fit, role and opportunity from the teams that draft them.

I really think that and the DLeaguer success goes back to something Gentry wouldn't let up on the first several months after every loss. Guys weren't playing hard. At the time it seemed to me like Gentry was just blaming the players for his failure, but maybe there was something to it and he was trying to be instructive and not just point fingers.

This all keeps coming back to Gentry being the round hole this square roster is trying to fit through. Lots of coaches and FO execs have made podcasts appearances recently, and one thing they all have said is you need everyone from ownership down to be on the same page to succeed. If fitting Gentry isn't the way that Dumars/Hammond/Whoever want to build, they need to fire Gentry sooner rather than later.

Not saying they are more than bench bodies bubba

That's like saying you know Michael Beasley true value by being out the league (queue great boomtard retort)

Ennis and Frazier are scoring at 46 and 48% on 10 shots a game

Ennis hitting 2 3p per at 42% and Frazier 46% from 3

I know you checked out on this Season so I won't hold it against you

Ennis easily. Has everything Gee has plus a better 3 point shooter. Probably isn't the defender Gee is, but he's still very good there. I get what you are trying to say though, but I felt the need to chime in on this specific example.

I'd really like to keep Frazier and Ennis. Not completely sold on Hamilton atm, and I'm not sure we will need Tony Douglas depending on who we draft. I guess the draft will decide all of that for us.

I think we've learned that Babbitt is a serviceable replacement for Anderson.

Frazier has a high basketball IQ. I like his game a lot, and I think he could be a really good backup PG going forward.

May very well be a Gentry problem. I lean more towards the roster being the issue more than any particular coach. Monty had a 500 team last year until Pondexter showed up.

It's a Joe Johnson era Hawks roster, on its best day. With Anthony Davis that is not good enough. No coach or style is getting this core to be a contender

I'm not trying to bash Gentry, I'm asking do we want to retool the roster for a coach that may not be here much longer, especially if the alternatives might have drastically different styles. Finding out Hammond's past ties to Gentry makes me think he'll get at least the 2 years left on his contract, so I'm less concerned about skewing the roster to him now though.
