$9,904,494
$10,595,505
$11,286,516
$11,977,527 (PO)

That's just so incredibly sobering.

and he'll never see that 5th year

The last season only has $3 million guaranteed, so it's really only 3, and I think you can give him away before then because comparable guys will be getting as much money for longer. As much as he gets hated on he's still in the same tier as the Koufos/Pachulia/Mozgov defensive bigs. For teams interested in that kind of player, one or 2 years of Asik may be more attractive than 4 years of someone else in that tier that's a FA.

it is a player, but it's only 3 million guaranteed

Over the course of the next four years Asik will average $10.25 million against the salary cap. The final year of his contract is guaranteed for just $3 million with an early termination option; that would be Asik's call to exercise or not.

Those guys aren't awful on the offensive end, though.

Where you rank Pekovic in that group? He's been recovering from an Achilles injury but he hasn't been talked about in a while. He was a hot topic on this board some time ago when he was a FA.

Whats depressing is that at the rate of his decline and poor play he may just op in to that contract.

His salary is ranked right in the middle of all centers. It's not a good deal but it's not a team killer of a deal either.

The real problem is how little he's being used. He's anywhere between $5-$8 million wasted, not a team killer like you said, but considering almost everyone but Demps seemed to realize how bad a deal it was at the time, it's a deal that never should have been made. Even the people trying to justify the amount complained about the years.

If we can't trade him without attaching draft picks right now, it is a bad deal. After next year it may not be considered a bad deal anymore, but that depends on whether Asik continues declining.

ETA - I have always thought the Asik deal was terrible and wanted Bioyombo. I think we are stuck with Asik unless we include him as a negative asset in a trade.

Asik is useless in the Western Conference. He will obviously continue declining. His contract was instantly viewed as one of the worst in all of basketball by numerous NBA analysts and experts the moment it was signed. Nothing has changed that point of view.

The entire Pelicans organization is a dumpster fire. If we don't absolutely nail this lottery pick the entire franchise is doomed, as attendance will be nearing all time lows in 2016/17 (even with the lowest ticket prices in the league). I'm terrified that AD will start publicly demanding to be moved in a year or two.
