"48 mins ago – via ART19 - New Orleans has talked with Cleveland about a Mozgov deal, but that didn’t go anywhere. Cleveland wasn’t going to do that deal."

Wojnarowski's podcast, Will try to listen to it...
Had to be Ryno/Asik to CLE for Mozgov... facilitating for another team

(didn't see this in the other thread - delete if need be)

Wasn't going to do that deal or Mozgov is not available?

Had to have been part of larger deal unless it's something like Cole or Ajinca swap because of the salaries. Can't imagine we'd want to take much salary back.

Just before the 54 minute mark on the podcast.
“Asik was a name that was in some talks.”

It wouldn't be the first time Demps took on a redundant piece hoping to unload the incumbent later (getting Tyreke when we still had Gordon), but I have to think this means Asik was somehow involved. Maybe something like Tyreke/Asik for Joe Johnson is of more interest to Brooklyn now that Jack went down.

For sure it would have to be part of a version of this one. Where we get Boston's 2 late 1sts. Also in the podcast, "~won’t give up Brooklyn pick for even Kevin Love", “Get to the offseason before you make a deal”

I was doing the same thing with EG/Asik before he went down.

Were Demps and Ainge laughing together at Cleveland on the conference call?

Cavs give up Kevin Love and Mozgov, get back Ryan Anderson and Omer Asik. We get the picks.

Seems legit!

HAHA! SOME mix of it... we get a pick, Cavs get a pick... it doesn't matter...

CLE paid a crap 1st, and 2nd for Mozgov... the Ryno bird rights would actually matter to them, and Asik cheaper than what Mozgov will get in free agency.

if they can pick up a late 1st... or 2nd or whatever... and move to Ryno 4 years/$20+ million per year, 3 years of Asik at avg 10+ with an early termination option in 2019-20? Way cheaper than Love at 20+, and Mozgov at $15million+ per year.

"That's why Mozgov won't sign an extension right now. He'll play for $4.9 million and another solid season for the 7-footer could be worth more than $15 million a year in 2016.

So Cavs give up maybe the two best players in the deal and get one of the worst players in the deal (Asik, with a shitty contract) and a 3-4 month rental of Ryno.

Yeah no. Just by himself they could get a MUCH better deal for Love.

I don't know enough about Oubre to even comment on that deal.

Would take that in a heartbeat, but I don't think Washington give up Oubre for Ryno. They supposedly really like him and traded up for him.

I know they need to make a push for a deep playoff run to woo Durant, but with the way OKC is playing they have to assume their odds are low. I wish Oubre was more advanced and taking starter minutes so they could give us Porter.

I don't think they trade Oubre because they see him as the future, but unfortunately they won't trade Otto because Oubre is not ready yet.

So my horrible trade idea is a huge 4 team blockbuster...but it'll never happen...but for fun...

Pels get: Mozgov, Batum, David Lee, & Dellavedova
Cavs get: Ryno, Cole, Brian Roberts, & Ajinca
Celtics get: Kevin Love, Luke Babbitt
Hornets get: Gordon & Sullinger

Hornets would also get a draft pick in this scenario

Trade Evans, Asik & a 1st for Teague & Splitter then you get:

Teague/Dellavedova
Holiday/Douglas
Batum/Gee
Davis/Cunningham/Lee
Mozgov/Splitter/Perkins

I know I know never will happen and our bench would be terrible

Cole is LeBron's boy and Ajinca fits what they want in a center. They get a cheaper version of Love and Roberts is just filler but is also a shooter that can create his own shot which they need.

That's all fine and dandy, but they aren't giving up Kevin love for Ryno and crap. They can get a much better deal elsewhere, or just not trade him and be better off.

This isn't NBA2kwhatever. The Cavs are trying to win a championship this year, not next year. If they get rid of Love, it needs to make them better this year. Ryno isn't Kevin Love.

Ryno and crap
You are missing the cap ramifications beyond this year if they keep Love and try to resign Mozgov. Ryno's bird rights are a BIG value, to a team that would want to sign a new stretch 4 anyway next season. Signing him outright as a free agent, will not be possible for a lot of teams.

Let's Look at a few 2016 options for the Cavs:
Keep Love, Try to resign Mozgov:
Lebron will be opting out. Maybe JR Smith and Mo Williams do as well.
Love, Kyrie, Tristan, Varejao, Iman, Sasha Kaun account for $74 million of a project $89 million dollar cap in 2016-17.

Is >$15million going to be enough to sign a free agent that would make an impact aside them? Are they confident they can resign Mozgov? do they think he is worth the money?

Trade Love in the Offseason, Try to Resign Mozgov:
Let's say they trade Love in the offseason, for a player like Jae Crowder. (mentioned in the Zach Lowe podcast) That's another $14.6mm off the cap, you now have almost $30 million to spend on an impact free agent. Oh snap! Now they can sign Dwight Howard! and still try to resign Mozgov! no stretch 4 though... I'm using Dwight Howard as a MAX available contract/impact player... not saying he is going to the Cavs.

Move on from Love, and Mozgov before the offseason:
Now let's say they are ready to move on from Kevin Love, and Mozgov. Or they just don't think they want to pay Mozgov next year for what he has shown. So want to get something for his bird rights.

They send Love to the Celtics.
Mozgov, David Lee, Best of Boston's 2016 1sts to Pelicans
Cavs take Ryno, Asik & the worse of the 2 Boston 1sts...

Now they have Kyrie, Tristan, Varejao, Iman, Sasha, ASIK committed to $62.4 million of the $89 million cap. They can still afford free agent Dwight Howard! They still have Ryno's bird rights... so they can resign him. They now have a late 1st as well.

Which is better:
Dwight, Asik, Ryno, 1st ... or Dwight, Crowder, nothing for Mozgov's bird rights, less tax?

HELL! you can throw in EG... Now we get both 1sts from Celtics.
Let the Cavs resign EG too!
Turn Love and Mozgov expiring into:
Free Agent Dwight, Asik, Bird Rights Ryno, Bird Rights EG.... lead the league in tax!! Why not?

Looking forward, max deals on Dwight and Ryno, and something average for EG next year, may seem reasonable too when the cap jumps again in 2017-18 to near $110 million? HAHAHA!
