In Friday's Locked on Pelicans podcast, Jake Madison makes a point about how this team doesn't need another guard like Lance, it needs another big that can rebound and defend. And he's right. We've seen enough ball movement and decent shooting to believe the offense will be fine, especially with AD averaging over 30 points per 36. But what hasn't been fine is the rebounding and defense whenever Asik isn't playing.

This team's best DRtg and fastest pace comes with Asik on the floor. The lack of full preseason stats makes it difficult to lock down why, but it seems likely the answer is rebounding. They need to do something if AD isn't ready to be David Robinson, because relying on Asik is bad enough, needing him for more than 20 MPG is crazy. JJ Hickson looks like he's still available. Picking Ajinca over Withey sure seems like a big mistake in hindsight.

Going to get Hickson would be a steal - I wish we could have somehow made a move to get Taj Gibson this offseason

Looking around the league who could be had other than Hickson?

yep

they need a tenacious rebounder in a bad way
lance brings nothing they don't already have except maybe defensive effort
not sure withey was the answer but ajinca decidedly is not

I'm with you
drop lance and maybe also Gee and scour for cheap rebounders

Hickson is a good call I don't think there is anyone better your going to get for cheap to come rebound and do the dirty work

Did you see he's having another knee surgery? Sounds like it's minor, but still, the Pels don't need another player that comes in with injury issues.

To me, we need another guy who can play basketball. I can make an argument for any position if you give me a guy who is a positive. We don't need Lance or Gee because they aren't good, so yes, a good big would be better than either of them. But a below average big doesn't help us either, because we already have 3-4 of them if you consider DC a big.

I would personally take a good SF over a good C right now, but I doubt you are really going to have the opportunity to get either.

Is this like The Wheelbarrow or The Praying Mantis?

For research purposes

Crewz is right- they just need more, good players. This summer was a nice start. Will take at least another year.

They need more ball handling help, more wing help, and more frontcourt help.

If they look to add a guy now, I hope they look in the DLeague for a younger guy with something to prove. Hickson is empty calories

This summer was a really good start I agree.

I lead the charge against Demps but he made some good moves.

But I do still think it's time to move on.

I would love a Reggie Evans type player
a mean streak and a nose for rebounds

You get that guy and he would hurt you in other areas that would offset where he helps you.

Good players just aren't out there right now and this team doesn't have enough horses until Holiday gets back. Then, add QPon too and maybe you can get something for Evans- that is when you have a chance to be competitive. Just gotta stay around .400-.450 until then

I know he isn't much of a baller but I think hasheem thabeet is a big man that you can throw on the court for 10 minutes a game on side of AD. Tell him block every shot and rebound don't worry about offense at all

would you attach a small asset (pels 2nd?) to get ajinca moved and thus keep Gee and lance? assuming there's a taker?

or to pick up a decent big?

ajinca is the square peg on this team

I would give up our 2nd. Minny wants a big for Jones. I would try to pitch Jones to Philly, Ajinca and our 2nd to Minny and a fake or late 2nd to us

Chicago has a roster spot available and are in need of a C (only have Lopez and Felicio)
Trade them our 2nd and Ajinca for a fake pick.

I'm good with that trade but we need to have another big on hand ourselves. I know we can play Davis at the 5 but this would make us incredibly thin down low. I guess we could go get Joel Anthony or something for cheap but that's a negative to me

Don't know too much about his game but the Wolves are not picking up the fourth year option on Adreian Payne. I know he can play the four and probably some 5. Wonder if minny would give him to us for Ajinca? He would come off the books next offseason and thus giving more to work with it in adding to the team.
