sure seems like they put Payne on the 15-man to see what they could drum up for him
otherwise he was headed back to d league

You need to find a team with the cap space to absorb him without giving money back. This includes Minny, Philly, Phoenix, Brooklyn, and Denver

Brooklyn makes some sense, but probably want an asset to take him and his three years

Yeah noticed that Chicago are over just over the cap.

Still can’t see Gee being cut (Purely because he is friends with AD).

It’s Lance or Ajinca IMO.

I am proposing to trade Ajinca, not because he sucks arse, but so we can cut the roster down to 15 players.

Ajinca is not the type of player you pay to get rid of. I can't believe any of you want to give up a 2nd to move Ajinca. We may need that 2nd to move Asik when the time comes.

Right, that's why I said maybe Minny will take him for Payne. They have cap space and it would give us a TPE. We can probably cut him and go pick up a Hickson or someone with the roster spot. They get the big they need on a decent contract.

Asik is at least useful against the big brute C's of the NBA.

Jones and AD can eat up Ajinca's minutes at the C position.
He is redundant and taking up a roster spot when we need wings.

What does Ajinca provide that either Jones or AD can't?

He is, and I'm not saying you dump Asik now. Dumping Asik to sign worthwhile FAs next offseason is something worth burning a 2nd over. Dumping Ajinca now to make room for an EIGHTH guard on the roster because 3 are out until December is a waste of a 2nd.

T-Wolves have about five centers over there!

I disagree. I would gladly give up our second to dump Ajinca.

Remember:

1. The success rates of 2nds
2. The cost to buy seconds

You could buy a second in our range for a million. You would be dumping 11 mil off the books

For these reasons, I would gladly use a second to dump that guy

To what end though?

1) We don't need the cap space now
2) Cutting Gee is the path of least resistance to a roster spot
3) Our level of "need" for a roster spot is kind of low considering the caliber/fit of player we're talking about bringing in.

Maybe in a vacuum using a 2nd to move Ajinca isn't a bad idea, but I think in this specific situation it is.

Every bit of flexibility next summer helps. If you have a guy who is dead weight taking up room for future years that you can't use (and I don't think Ajinca will ever be serviceable) then you give up a small asset IMO

I would do it even if we didn't have this Lance/Gee dilemma. That is a small short term gain. I am saying that I would do it even if it just opened up a 15th spot that we didn't need because magically Jrue, Reke, and QPon were all healthy

I hoped TOR to go after Ajinca. He always played good versus them. But will be surprised if Masai will go after him.

Cost of dumping Calderon was two second rounders.
Cost of dumping Ajinca might be the same (long term contract).

Will decent play of Asik plus Philly second rounder be enough? Doubt it. Hopefully I am wrong.

Toronto can't just absorb him, that's the issue with them

And I think you are right. I think it might take more than just one second rounder to give him away

Again, that second rounder has a sticker value of 1-2 million dollars. Ajinca is owed over 11 million. So, you gotta think you are going to get 9 million dollars of value out of him as a player to do the deal. I don't know if any teams think he is worth that right now

We will find out by this afternoon

Whether this is accurate or not this conversation reminds me of draft night and how were indirectly saying we would trade our picks to get Diallo. I mean I almost feel like you are trying to prepare us for an Ajinca trade happening today. It may not but you are pushing this one harder than most.

All I know is that they are trying. What I don't know is how the other 29 view him

Probably not right now, most teams already addressed their backup needs. Where his value will come is next offseason when teams are looking for backups to fill out the roster and you'll have more Lance Thomas style contracts that make Ajinca look decently valued. Especially if the minimum is going to be increasing as well.

I see your point but you can pay to move him next offseason too, and next offseason you might be able to give him away, so why pay to move him now when you can just cut Gee to get what you need?

Because I think Gee and Lance help this team more this year than Lance and Ajinca or Gee and Ajinca, and because so much can happen in a year that I am not going to bet I can move Ajinca next year if I am sure I can move him now. Another terrible and/or injury riddled year and it might be even harder to move him.

There is so much sense in Reke+Ajinca for Monroe.

If only Reke was healthy...
But he is not...

I am also against dumping AA now with 2nd rounders going from NO.

We have something like 8 hours left till opening night roster deadline...
