Guys that are on cheap deals, hope springs eternal. Big deals frick THAT PIECE OF shite FOR NOT PLAYING PERFECT EVERY SECOND.

There are definitely a lot of people that seem to think you're either worth a max deal, a minimum deal, or you're overpaid. And the cap escalation has not helped at all.

There are discernible differences that would cause one to be more optimistic of jones than Asik and AA, yes

Jones is 24 and has been hampered by a pretty serious condition, which in turn limited his production (hence the interest/contract). Has flashed potential and was on the cusp of a breakout

Asik and AA are tigers who probably aren't changing their stripes at the point in the game. Though I still remain optimistic Asik becomes playable Asik. AA isn't moving the needle either way

Views are all over on a message board. Trying to be a regulator and put people in check is dumb. Everyone gets "The history tells us X will likely happen" stance. The countless events that defy history keeps fans interested in an otherwise hopeless team

This board just has an irrational hatred for Asik. He shot 59% at the rim last season which is competent and his rebounding numbers were trending back to normal once he got healthy. If he's healthy that's what you should expect. I still don't see him as a fit long term. You can use a cheaper guy like Ajinca to lean on the bigger bigs.

The SECOND that Drew Brees got a huge contract the haters came out of the woodwork no matter what he did, and what he had done for the Saints.

Were the "haters" in this example not right?

That deal hamstrung the organization. We have the benefit of hindsight to confirm this.

In pro sports, there are many people that are overpaid, and people that are underpaid with little in between. Contracts are almost always based on past performance. With this system, there will always be friction between fans and organizations due to contracts

Not to continue to thread jack, but no the deal did not hamstring the organization. We have still been able to sign FAs and sign our own players every off season. Our organization has suffered from high priced FAs not working out and poor drafts pre-Ireland. Drew is not one of the high priced players that has not worked out. He has and continues to earn every single penny of his contract.

So you and the other parrots that continue to repeat this bullshite are wrong.

All one needs to do to crush that argument is take a look at Saints drafts for about 4 years and then dead money contracts.

End of argument.

My whole point is that we can do that with any player if we want to hope for the best. I am hoping Asik is post all star 2014-15. But the objective projection says he will be less than that

Except we have a lot more data to project that not to be the case with Asik. We only have 4 years with Terrance and he is only 24. One was a rookie season which as you have pointed out many times before, very few rookies come in and have good seasons. If you discount his rookie year, we now have 3 seasons. One decent season, one mostly injured season, and then one really bad season.

Maybe the injury permanently affected his ability to play the game. Maybe he simply wasn't right last season and needed more time to heal. Maybe he just isn't very good. There is not enough data to really have a good feel for the answer to that question.

I think the 1 yr min deal shows major red flags with his character and play. I would not be surprised to learn that most teams have problems with him and think the nerve damage has permanently affected his play. There is at least a distinct possibility that the injury held him back and he can heal. Probably unlikely given his contract, but because he is on such a small contract it doesn't matter.

He is a lottery ticket which is what so many of us have wanted at the end of oour bench the past several years instead of guys like Babbit.
