He's playing for his next contract. I don't know who we're up against but here he only has to beat out Cunningham to get minutes.

Well. That kind of sucks but I'm not losing my shite over a 14th man.

Even If he gets a better offer and goes there's still some servicable back up PFs out there.

That's the kind of risk they should be taking, so that would make sense. I haven't kept up with their moves since draft night but they traded Thaddeus Young so I assume they have PF minutes available.

Is Stein saying Jones is 100% coming here but the salary he gets will depend on if the Pelicans can move Tyreke?

frick this is confusing

Pelicans do have a little cap room in my estimation to give Terrence Jones. $250k or so above his minimum depending on exact figures.

evidently his salary is the minimum or slightly above, and there will be incentives. he wont be here past this year anyway...if he bombs he's gone and if he plays well he'll get a good offer, more than the pels will want to pay for a backup PF

Yeah by next season I'm sure we're hoping that Cheick has progressed enough to split minutes at the backup 4 with DC anyway.

He would be a nice piece, if he does have a bounce back year reminiscent of his 13-14 season - though obviously in less minutes - to use as a pot sweetener in a trade to bring back assets/move another player.

Though with Dell at the helm those type of chess moves are about 20/80 to actually be taken advantage of.

If he plays well enough, I wouldn't mind letting DC walk.

if Cunningham could rebound he'd be a real asset
he can't though so he's a placeholder but a good teammate
cut his minutes because we have a better player and he can stay as long as he wants

I said "on the way" which he was. Defensively he was average and trending up and offensively he was improving.
Defensively no, he wasn't trending up. He was the same as he always was on defense. And last year, he got worse everywhere.

Offensively, he never really improved much either. He's always been decent offensively, but he didn't really improve much. He worked on his shot before the 2014-15 season, and there was hope that maybe he could become more of a stretch 4 by increasing his 3-point percentage. But he got injured 4 games into the season and missed most of the year. So we never got to see if he really improved his shot any.

The thing with Jones is that he never really improved. He was virtually the same player going into year 3 that he was as a rookie. Now, it's common for players to have their "break out" year in their 3rd season. But his 3rd season was devastated by injuries. And his 4th season was a total collapse.

He was expected to trend upwards because he had potential. But he never really did.

You are literally talking out your arse dude.

His defensive rating got better every year til his injury according to NBA.com. His defensive FG% did the same. Where before the turmoil he was above average in every defensive contesting category. His DRPM was decent and in the upper half of the league in terms of PF's before his injury.

Offensively he did get more efficient. Tapping out at 35% 3p%. And nearly 55% fg%.

I really just don't know where you are building this narrative that he wasn't improving?

The only value Jones will have in any trades is for salary matching purposes.
