I should have put more context sorry

I think he was really out of it and really did not know where the hell he was. He made a (very)dumb desicion and the owner was within his right, but did BDJ have to die over this?

This shite is just weird and sad. I haven't been on this board for a couple of days but to find this has just crushed me.

I'm also upset by how some are acting in this thread as well.

just by going off of the current information, yeah he was really out of it but what were his intentions? say it was his girlfriend's apartment and not the wrong one. what was he planning on doing to her or the guy he thought she was messing with? seems like he had very bad and violent intentions

it's sad all around. the owner did absolutely nothing wrong here though (not saying you are insinuating that) and most of us if not all of us would've probably reacted the same way. RIP BDJ

There's really no way of knowing that and speculating either way of his intentions is kind of pointless.

On your 2nd point(my phone keeps fricking up quotes) yeah the owner absolutely has the right to defend his/her home but this just makes me wonder if there was a way to resolve it without him fricking dying.

It just upsets me terribly to see a guy that making something of himself and had his shite on track lose his life in an awful way.

I hope his family/teammates/friends find peace

i'm not trying to make a claim either way. I'm just going off of current information that we have which could be completely wrong. just seems like if he is kicking in doors to get in, his intentions are probably not good.

I don't want to get too much into it because it's coming off like I don't like the kid and think he deserved it. it's just an unfortunate situation, let's agree on that

No you're not coming off bad at all some people in this thread are definitely acting that way and that's very unfortunate.

Its crazy how much loss has gone on in the past 6 months or so. It rattles you at a personal level.

Here's a thought, if you are in town for your 1 year olds birthday how about not getting so drunk that you can't remember where your girl friend lives and kick down doors. Why not do the adult thing, stay sober and be with your daughter.

This...he did something beyond stupid and paid the ultimate price...

Knocking first would have been a good choice

Why? You simply cannot act the way he did without consequence. I obviously wish the kid didn't die but it doesn't sound like he was that great a guy. It's different than what happened to Will. You're in town celebrating your kids 1st birthday. If you, as a father, can't keep it together for a few days to celebrate a great event like that, I'm gonna speculate you're a POS.

That said, it sucks that another child in this world will grow up without a daddy because of an easily avoidable event.

I don't disagree with a lot of what you said at all

Its just sad that a guy who was making something of himself makes a really bad choice that causes something like this.

It's just angering in many ways

One of the reasons why I was so adamant on defending BDJ earlier in the thread was because I meet him. I meet him after his first start vs the Kings. Saw him the day after the game, went up to him congratulate him. We talked for a solid 10-15 minutes. He seemed like he genuinely cared about the conversation unlike some athletes I've met.

I suppose page 7 is where we start asking these questions

I would assume so. In fact, there's no way he doesn't come off the books in a situation like this. It's probably similar to when a player retires.

It is a weird conversation to have but I'm pretty sure there was a thread on the MSB recently about what types of compensation a team receives if a player dies.

I think that thread was more about draft picks dying (like Len Bias) or something happening to a star player. And if something like that happens, you don't get compensation. At least as far as I know. Maybe you get some sort of compensatory pick in the NFL or MLB. But I've never heard of a compensatory pick in the NBA
