How is Mason Plumlee making this team? I thought it was Miles Plumlee that they said is going to beat out Cousins. Are both Plumlee brothers on the team (I haven't see Miles play yet)?

Just Mason

He's actually played a solid game. With Cousins getting hurt, Plumlee's really helped his cause

Drummond hasn't gotten into the game at all, fwiw

That's just weird. I thought Miles was a much better player, but Mason is younger (maybe more potential?)..

It looks like they are going to go with one pivot player (Davis, Plumlee or Cousins), a stretch/undersized 4 (Faried, Parsons or Gay) and then 3 guards. I like it when they put 2 PGs out there. Brazil just couldn't keep up..

I still don't like Harden's game. He just barrels at the rim and throws crap up. The refs keep bailing him out, but he initiates all the contact. Just ugly basketball..

Harden didn't get bailed out nearly as much tonight as he does in a typical NBA game.

If he could throw a lob AD would've had about 8 more points.

Not a bad showing at all considering all the drama the last few weeks. Offense was disjointed, but they will fix that. Defense was good enough, but can still clean it up.

A few player thoughts:

Thompson looked bad. Very bad

Not terribly impressed with Plumlee either. He looked good in garbage time. Not so much otherwise. If Cousins is healthy and Plumlee is ahead of him, that is a joke. I dont care about fit.

Faried is a problem too. If he is starting with Davis, he kills spacing. And he is just a bad defender in space. Love his energy and rebounding in short bursts though.

Irving looked locked in.

Great to see Rose show some of the old burst.

Harden refuses to pass to anyone, but he got 11FTS.

Would like to see more Korver.

Davis is the best and most important guy on the team.

I thought Faried played really well. He was all over the court. He seemed to be the best fit next to Davis. He doesn't give much on offense (other than put backs). But he was doing everything else.

If they are going with the 3 guard line-up, it looks like Harden and Thompson would be the 3rd guards and defend SFs. Maybe they might mix in Korver, Hayward or Parsons (depending on which ones make the team). Thompson just seemed to push it too much.

Who do you think the 4 cuts are going to be? If it were up to me, I'd cut Plumlee, Drummond, Derozan and Hayward. That'd leave..

Davis/Cousins
Faried/Parsons/Gay
Harden/Thompson/Korver
Curry/Lillard
Irving/Rose

Gay can play 3-4 positions, so he gives them a lot of flexibility. Korver is a designated gunner..

He plays with a ton of energy and is a rebounding fiend which this team needs, but he just isn't good on defense in terms of positioning and moving in space. He's poor in the NBA and will be poor v international ball movement.

Plus he kills spacing for Davis and all the off the bounce attackers. Until they play Spain/Brazil again, there is no reason to start him with Davis.

Yep. He has a very weak dribble game. He is a catch and shoot guy. When he tries to create, it's a bad possession regardless of outcome. What was most troubling was how an old and heavy Barbosa was beating him on the other end. Could have just been one of those nights for him, but he stunk it up on both ends and looked really out of place.

Really think Korver should see some more time if Thompson continues to play like this.

That's whom I would cut too.

They'll be fine as they work out the kinks. The 2012 team struggled a bit in some of these pre-tournament games too. Easy draw will help them get to the Final. But that will be tough- it was tough in the last 3 tournaments with better teams. They used to have Melo or LeBron or Durant playing v international 4s and their backups. They would just kills teams there. Not the same advantage any more

He is for real. A while back, a bunch of clowns on MSB jumped on me when I said he'd be the best PG in the league in a few years. A bunch of them argued that he isn't even top 10 in the NBA. Wait and see.

It might help having the best player in the world on his team this year.

I didn't think Thompson played that bad. He's going to be important when Team USA inevitably uses its depth to full court press opponents. You have to figure the coaches lost their first and 2nd/3rd option early on in the process right before taking a hiatus. Last night seemed to be a lot of trial and error.

I do not get what the love for Korver is. If they weren't in Chicago does he play at all last night? He's not THAT much better of a shooter than some of the 3 pt specialists on the team, and he adds little value besides that one skill.

I like the Faried and Davis pairing. Anything that keeps Davis from being pigeon holed into the 5 for a month is ok with me. It'll be interesting to see if Davis continues to take a larger role in the offense with KD out. I also got a huge kick out of Kyrie asking him if he wants him to stop passing him the ball. Baller move.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to AD's postgame interview, when he said that he missed a couple to start the game and Kyrie asked him if he was going to stop shooting.

I think he did OK, but, damn, every time Thompson screwed up, Brazil went on a run.

The guy who was totally unimpressive was Harden; he always looks like he's playing out of control....most of the time he is.

A premier catch and shoot player w/o much of a dribble or post up game. Thompson or Korver?

Thompson is a better on ball defender, but a bit overrated on that end. Korver is better off ball and isn't a sieve on it either. He just doesnt get the press Thompson does

LINK for anyone wanting to watch the game

Parsons, smh...got fat as frick. Davis added muscle. Gordon Hayward suddenly looks jacked. Chandler looks like he's been on the cheeseburger diet this offseason.

Not exaggerating, I think i've read about a dozen "Anthony Davis is so good" articles in just a day+ since that game ended. Its great he's getting the recognition he deserves, but come on, really? This wasn't some "coming out party," like I keep reading. Dude balled out all season long and this was just a continuation of that. He didn't do anything in that game that those of us who've paid attention haven't seen on a regular basis for the past 2 seasons.

Way to promote him with those 2 national tv games he's gettin this year
