Question: Let's say we tank (and/or get really lucky) and get a top 3 pick...

we have:
Markelle Fultz (PG/SG)
Lonzo Ball (PG)
Josh Jackson (SF)
Dennis Smith (PG)

Do we take a PG in the draft even though we have Jrue, or do we try and go for an upgrade at SF with Jackson?

And if we DO take a PG like Fultz or Ball would we still be saddled with whatever deal we give to Holiday? or do we draft before we would decide to extend him or not?

Sorry trying to figure out the logistics here.

You take BPA. If they are in the same talent tier you take the SF if you think Holiday is coming back.

Because the odds of a PG being the BPA are high I think you have to answer 2 questions before the trade deadline.

1) Will Jrue resign to be the 2nd guard/SG/Manu role. I actually think he would. He wouldn't take a discount to do it, but I wouldn't have seen drafting Dunn as a guarantee that Holiday would be gone.

2) Assuming Holiday is ok with #1, would you rather Buddy as your starting SG? While Holiday could maybe be sold on a prime Manu role, no way he stays to be just a 6th man.

everything hinges on two pieces of giant shite, Dell Demps and Alvin Gentry.

If I knew for a fact that they'd be back id try to keep Jrue. If we had a new or even coach who isn't retread, I'm trading Jrue at this deadline (he has MUCH more value than Ryno last year), maybe moving Evans with Ajinca to a contender for expiring salary, letting AD rest when he needs it, KEEPING the Holiday mid-late 1st and the early 1st. Address the PG area in the draft with the first pick hopefully or SF if the big 3 are gone and picking up a PG with the 2nd 1st and the philly 2nd.

Flex Asik if necessary. Pitch to a high value FA we are only a year or two away with a loaded youth roster and AD to build around, resign Jones to keep Davis happy at a reasonable rate, and maybe DMO to be big #3. Find the corpse of QPon so we can present it to the league office and get out of the cap hit.

Ok I'm getting off track. Point is we suck so much again there are OPTIONS. The level Holiday is playing at might net a real return, especially if he lands on a team that could benefit greatly from having him.

Eat Rubio for Minny 1st?
Memphis? Conley + Jrue is filthy
Spurs? Parker is older they need that Aldridge type replacement

It's so easy the list goes on.

ETA: Holiday becomes an even more interesting piece if he lands somewhere they feel can retain him

Whoever they take aren't helping them win for years. You don't worry about your current roster

And in this league where you can easily start four "non bigs", you just grab the best guy on your board

i would say Benson and Davis.

if neither guy is interested in selling off assets for a rebuild over the next 3 years, it just isnt going to happen.........by design

i'll bring it up again- if they are going to blow it up, they might as well trade Davis to the highest bidder this summer. just about everything would have to go right, and then some, for him to stay for his 3rd contract if they rebuild now. might as well just start fresh w/ absurd haul of high picks and young players

They are going to make the classic mistake of having one foot in the rebuild and one foot in the win now. I guarantee it. Something like resign Jrue, draft a 19 year old and sign another young vet to an overpriced contract

As soon as the season is over:

fire Demps and Gentry. Hire competent GM who hires a smart coach. Get top-3 or 5 pick. Draft baller. Don't give max contract to mediocre player. Be ok, but still kind of shitty next year. Get top-5 pick. Draft another baller. Sign needed role player. Get better, not quite as shitty, fight for 8th seed. Draft late in lottery. Draft more NBA ready guy. frick NBA in arse. Re-sign Anthony Davis. Win NBA Title 5 years in a row.

We'd be in pretty good shape if we gave Barnes that Max right about now.

Pretty much combine hill and Moore lol

This organization needs to unfrick its self... quit worrying about football for 3 fricking weeks and decide the following.
Are we cool with this? No
Do we need better leadership? Yes. We need a GM and a team president who can provide guidance and ensure the GM and coach understand what the frick the expectations are.
This organization makes me so damn mad

Can't go wrong with any of these, but if I had a choice? Give me Ball. Him and AD would be disgusting. Sprinkle in buddy buckets and we would definitely be heading in the right direction.

Nothing else matters but this.

Doesn't matter who the Pelican's sign; this "Dumpster Fire" franchise will never be nothing more than it is currently until there's a massive house cleaning. The organization is just "Urinating in the Wind" with Demps/Gentry and who thinks a purge will happen as long as King Benson and Prince Loomis have control?

It's the professional version of FKA/Joe Alleva/Johnny Jones.

Wishing and Hoping that things will get better does not make it so!.........

The more and more I see it, the more and more I think we should just gut as much as possible...we have a decent amount of 'cheap quality talent' for the future.

Say we re-sign DMo and Jones.
Keep Moore who is playing 25mpg and averages 10/2/2 while shooting 46/40/74.

Trade Galloway/Tyreke/Ajinca, stretch Asik. Take on a bunch of expirings and possibly get another 1st.

Give Holiday the max.

PG: Holiday/Frazier
SG: Hield/Moore
SF: Hill/Jackson (To start, similar to what Lakers are doing with Ingram)
PF: Davis/Jones
C: DMo/Diallo

I'd be happy with that team, but really what would have changed from this year?

Are we going to improve to 45 win team?

I doubt it.

have to hit the jackpot in the draft two years in a row or both the 1 and the 2.
