That said, it is kind of funny the way some are defending it like their mother's honor.

The name isn't even my first or probably 2nd choice.

I just think the backlash is visceral and extremely childish.

It is a name. It is relatively meaningless in the general scheme of things.

They could call us the NOLA Cum Dumpsters and I would be a fan. Because they are our Cum Dumpsters.

Not going to happen. Whatever name they choose, we're stuck with.

If it is anticipated to be so, then perhaps the NBA would not allow it.

Maybe, but I doubt the other owners mind us looking goofy

I'm wondering if it's possible for anyone to make a point that actually end up agreeing with. It'll be interesting to see.

The owners mind if the NBA loses money at a greater rate than they are. Right?

I think your defend at all costs attitude is extremely juvenile.

I think you are misinterpreting me a great deal if you think I have a "defense at all cost attitude".

Pelicans isn't great but neither is Saints. That seems to have worked out well.

Dumb. The Pelicans were a baseball team (traditionally named after birds--Jays, O's, Cards, etc.)
The Hornets should trade nicknames with the Jazz and bring that name back. Isn't Utah the Beehive state or something anyway?

Look, I get that it's the state bird. I personally have no issue with pelicans as a species, but that's beside the point. It just doesn't work, in my opinion, as a team name for several reasons.

Pretty spot on for a two sentence argument against it.

You hate the name. You won't buy any Pelicans stuff. You'll continue to obstinately refer to them as the Hornets even though the name will have a changed. You'll never get on board or like the name.

I think I got it.

Well I for one think it's awesome. Best option out of all the ones I saw on here.

Fits the area/culture perfectly, totally unique in professional sports, pretty good color scheme.

This is great

You forgot the fact that he'll bring up how he hates the name for the rest of time. THAT won't get old at all!

I think it is a bit weird, but it could have been worse. Personally I preferred Krewe, Voodoo, or Brass. But it is a lot better than Angels or spirit. I like that it is unique.

And in the NBA it will be middle of the road. A lot better than Nuggets, LA Lakers, Utah Jazz, Wizards, Heat, Magic, or Thunder.

That's the thing though, 90% of the reaction has been "I wish it was brass or Krewe" from everyone outside those 10 hornetards that like to "be different" as they admitted multiple times in the thread

@drewbrees: Alright, if you could rename the New Orleans Hornets w/ Krewe, Cajuns, or Pelicans, which would it be? Fan vote

I voted for Krewe of New Orleans

I prefer Krewe. I'm just not a bridge jumper. Its a name. Its fine. Its offbeat and I think it fits us.
