I wouldn't be in favor of a poll, internet or otherwise, to choose a name. Opens the door to true awfulness.

If it can't be the Brass, I can take Pelicans over the other suggestions I've heard.

Dot forget folks, Admiral Akbar was the internet fan choice to replace Col Reb at Olé Miss.

And? Like Pelicans, their other options were less than exciting.

By then it is too late.

Not going to happen. Whatever name they choose, we're stuck with.

Maybe, but I doubt the other owners mind us looking goofy.

My point was, putting it to a vote of the masses is not always a good thing.

I like Pelicans. Identifiable with NOLA, unique. Would look good holding a championship trophy. Whats not to like?

The National reaction, if its negative will make me want it even more. Typical New Orleanian I guess.

I get that, but I compare it to presidential elections. When you only get shitty options, of course the selection is going to be shitty.

It's better than Spirit and Angels by far, but I agree that it doesn't seem like a good name for a sports team.

I just hope Davis and EG10 like it. Might be the deal breaker.

This makes no sense, they mention that the top three names were Krewe Pelicans and Brass, just have a poll with those three and you won't "open yourself up to admiral akbar"

(which would have made more sense than black bears mind you)

Colin Cowherd ?@ESPN_Colin

New Orleans has so much rich & identifiable history, they deserve better than the Pelicans for NBA team name. It's even a weak, floppy bird.

It's official, Colin hates it so we should 100% be in love with it. I'd love to put a pelican in his studio set and listen to him scream like a girl. Pelican would POWN him.

I'm a big fan of this, it's original. Has anyone ever actually been intimidated by a team nickname? I do see them putting "PELS" on the uniforms at some point instead of the full word. I think this will turn out better than people think.
