I really feel like 80% of the people mad on this thread don't realize he is basically out for the year, and the other 20% don't fully understand our cap situation and are just yelling BIRD RIGHTS!

This really is no big deal, and I like making a big deal out of stupid moves by these guys. But this ain't one.

Even if he comes back at exactly 4 weeks, that's 10-11 games left. Could be as little as 3-5 if the thumb doesn't heal quickly - and it's a sensitive spot for a break.

He's unrestricted at the end of the year, it's clear there was some kind of indication he didn't really want to be here. He didn't want to be here last time we bought him out.

Move on - We need able bodied backcourt right now. QPon obviously still figures into their vision.

Almost none of that is correct. Casspi does want to be here and QPon doesn't figure into their vision. QPon will just be easy to dump next summer or you can spread his salary out over 3 years at 1.2 mil a piece. Cutting QPon now would have cost them more money and potentially years

Again, the only reason you keep Casspi is if you know you are gonna operate over the cap next summer and I don't think that's the definite plan. And even if you are, you can easily bring him back with part of the MLE or maybe even the biannual

This really is nothing people

Omri wouldn't have been a good player for us next season? I don't care if he's effectively out the rest of this season, he would have been valuable to our team long term. This season doesn't matter, and having one more bench caliber guard isn't going to make or break us making the playoffs anyway. This is a short sighted move by a miserable front office that was handed the keys to a Porsche for the price of a Civic

Do you not think this could potential be a negative to Cousins given Omri is a good friend?

So this isn't going to pass of DC0?

I'd rather keep Casspi than sign Reggie who isn't going to help us at all imho

And there is NOTHING preventing the team from signing him next season. Absolutely nothing.

The team simply thinks Reggie Williams or maybe Quinn Cook after ten days or having that roster spot for whoever for 24 games helps more than maybe getting an out of shape Casspi back for 6-8, which makes all the sense in the world

So if they want to bring him back now he has to take up part of the cap room generated? What is the difference in cap room - Casspi and the mid level exception. Or he takes up some of the exception space over the cap. I don't even know if we will be operating over the cap now. I think he would have been a good fit for the team long term.

One thing I wonder is there going to be a push to keep Montiejunas. I always thought he was someone they wanted for depth long term, but maybe all of that has changed.

As long as the Pels go back to Casspi with a decent offer in the offseason it makes sense if they are fighting for the playoffs. If the Pels could financially get rid of Asik or Ajinca for roster room I am sure they would preferred that over the Casspi cut.

These are all just guys. They are, whatever. You don't get Casspi, you get someone like him. You find the next Terrance Jones, the next James Ennis, or as you seem to like Montiejunas. We aren't talking about needle movers here.

Now, if the argument is that a Reggie Williams doesn't even give you 1% more of a chance to make the playoffs, then fine. But if an able body even helps you in one game and that one game gets you in, then don't you have to risk losing "just another guy"?

Again, if they want Casspi back bad enough, they can have him. But let's not act like they cut Boogie or AD, or heck, even Moore.

From what I've seen though, if we resign Jrue we will be capped out. So if that's the case, we just trashed his bird rights. If that's not the case, either we don't retain Jrue or we don't max him. Or at least that's my understanding.

It's not my fault that you read things that aren't true. I put an article up the day after the Cousins trade that explained everything in the simplest of terms.

Not my fault if I put all my superior knowledge out there for free and people don't take advantage of it.

The Pels were in a tough spot.

I am not tied down to Montijunas. I assumed they thought he was a player they might keep for depth. They obviously think Asik and Ajinca are worthless.

I think they need to find some glue role players with the contracts they sign going forward. Casspi seems one of the types of role players we need and he happened to come across as a good teammate of Cousins. I think they need to push to make the playoffs, but hopefully the cap situation works out for this important offseason.
