Pending Melo actually starting at the 4 for them, am I crazy for thinking we should destroy them in reg season and possible future playoff round?

I'm not saying Melo = KD, but he's close enough to say they are similar to the old OKC plus they now have PG-13. Shutting them down will be about playing good team defense against 3 guys that can beat individual defenders.

Who guards George and Westbrook?

In theory yea AD/DC does a lot of damage. But they'll do that against any team. Guard and SF positions need to ball out.

AD would embarrass Melo on both ends of the court. We'd have Jrue, Allen, Cunningham, and maybe even Rondo to guard Westbrook and PG.

I just feel like Melo would be completely taken out of the game. Obviously being really optimistic about everyone meshing together and whatnot.

OKC just doesn't scare me with the acquisition of Melo I guess.

This team doesn't have to worry about matching up on defense with any team. We have above average defenders at ever position now and some can defend multiple positions. That high tempo fast break big daddy Al offense is what needs to show up and show up quickly in order for this team to reach its potential

it all depends on if its Russ/PG/Melo/Patterson/Adams or if its Russ/Roberson/PG/Melo/Adams

if they stagger them then obviously you put your best defenders on them. but the best teams play team defense.

Nobody in the NBA can stop Melo on the offensive end.

This is their starting lineup, per Donovan.

I don't see AD wanting to guard the perimeter as much as matching up with Melo would require.

This is Melo we're talking about, not some guy that has to be chased all over the court through screens while he tries to get open for 3. I don't think he'd sag off Melo unless that was the defensive call.

If that was the case then the Knicks would have won more than 63 games the last 2 years.
And Melo would average more than 22 ppg.

Melo isn't getting to the line nearly as much as he used to either. He isn't anywhere near as tough a cover as he was 4 years ago.
He has a very quick shot release and he's a good jump shooter. It helps that he's got a big body and is 6'8" to get that jump shot off. Not so easy when there's a a 7 footer who's got long as arms and is bigger, faster and quicker than him.
If they were to guard each other an entire game, AD would double Melo's points everytime.

I believe AD and Melo will offset each other. Melo can shot the three and dribble by Davis. Davis major edge will be on the offensive glass. Defensivesly Melo will force Davis to play outside which allows their guards to post.
OKC advantage is their reserves. The Pels' bench is extremely weak.

Granted I do not watch much Melo, but I find it very hard to believe Melo would "get his" one on one against AD.

And as far as AD not wanting to float out to the perimeter on D, if OKC throws out a line up of Russ, PG, Robertson, MELo and Adams.. who else would AD guard besides Melo? I'd assume DC on Adams.

You put Davis on on Roberson and let him roam. Pels don't have the roster to guard all 3 of Russ, George, Melo at the same time

or paul/harden/gordon
or GSW obviously

my fear is that gentry will want to play allen against these good teams, which means he'll be on the court with rondo, which means...

well we know what that means

Yeah. Not sure you can survive w/ Allen and Rondo together

I would guess they go Rondo, Holiday, Cunningham, Davis, Cousins as a closing lineup.

This is from an interview today about what TA brings to the team.
quote:

“We talked about how free agency went for me – free agency didn’t go so well,” Allen said of his conversation with Demps. “He thought that with the way they wanted to play me, it would bring a couple more years to my career and be beneficial to the ballclub.

“Dell did a phenomenal job keeping it honest with me, letting me know how he wants to play me, what he’s trying to do with me as far as my health, getting me in great gear for the playoffs. Playoffs are a short-term goal that he put in the sales pitch.”

LINK

That sounds like "we're saving you for the playoffs." or as you feared, we want you to play against good teams.

the hope is that miller can close as three
or at least my hope

we know gentry has favorites, DC among them
he's not a 3 though, he's a 4 and better used off the bench with davis or boogie at 5

i agree Cunningham is a better 4 than 3. and i think Miller being good enough to be out there would be the best case scenario.

but i do think v OKC, i'd want Cunningham on Melo.

I'm all for scrappy and undersized guys. But I don't get how a 6'4 combo guard is going to start locking down premier SFs. I admire the guy's heart and all, but he would be giving up tons of size every game. Thats not fair to him and just seems unrealistic..
