i agree that Fultz has more value in a vacuum, but i dont know if they were banking on Porzingis (a stud still on a rookie deal) being available this summer.

it would be shocking if they didn't talk with Chicago/Indiana about #1 for Butler/George. so, i would guess the asking price w/ Fultz was too high or too risky (George).

maybe the best trade they thought they had was #1 for #3 + an extra likely high lottery pick. to me, that trade was a bet against Fultz and a bet on stars becoming available over the next couple of summers that could be had w/ extra ammo

Ajinca, QPon, and Axle Foley plus picks for him would be fine by me. They shed a little money and get picks. They might say yes

Dudley for Qpon/Ajinca turns $20 million into $14 million for Phoenix. If you do this, do you bring back Cunningham? Isn't Cunningham better than Dudley at this point? He certainly should be cheaper than $10 million per year and wouldn't cost any picks to keep.

no question, but you get rid of 1 or 2 dead roster/salary spots

I'd imagine he'd waive it to play for Gentry again. Wasn't his best years with him?

Looking at the tweet it sounds like he does not want to be traded to New Orleans

Hope not. I thought our focus on trying to get rid of Ajinca and QPon was to create cap space. This trade would rid of us our draft picks and not help us increase our cap space.

That's a fair point.

ELI5 - I get the logic. Fultz is worth 90cents. We get back $1.00 in 2 50cent pieces that give you more flexibility.

It just looks dumb in hindsight.

to be able to sign a guy of Dudley's quality. he's older, but he is a smart player and he can shoot from 3. and 2/$19 is a decent deal.

a couple of problems for me- like others have pointed out, there is some redundancy with Cunningham. neither guy is quick enough on the perimeter to play D at the 3. so you're looking at loading up on stretch/small 4s. which made a hell of a lot of sense pre-Boogie. now, not as many minutes there if you consider Hill thereas well

and ditching both draft picks would be a tough sell for me, even though they likely wont be as good as Dudley is now.

he'd look good at 4 with davis out and cousins at 5, or cousins out and davis at 5. i'd be disappointed if they made any decisions on moves with cunningham in mind...nice run at his cheap number but time to move on and find another one

i agree...but like ATL said, if you think Cunningham is close enough to Dudley and can be had for a cheaper salary w/o tossing out the picks..

comes down to how valuable you would think getting rid of Ajinca/QPon is and what number Cunningham would get. i wouldnt be upset either way.

we'll see what ends up happening. they could still get KP or someone else with the pick. or could very well be right about Fultz v their choice

Yeah. How bizarre though to have to potentially stay away from top prospects cause you're good. Jackson doesn't want to go there, but we weren't hearing that from Jackson when they held 1 or Fultz at all.

The other thing that could really blow up in Ainge's face is the possibility that the Lakers aren't top 5 bad this year or the Kings/Sixers luck into the #1 pick in 2019. Sacramento is a dumpster fire atm. 2 years of the Philly core 5 and you could realistically see them picking in the late lottery.

That trade looks real bad if you get #3 and #11 or Fultz turns into an all star. Ainge definitely has balls cause he put an axe over his head that didn't need to be there.

yes. it could easily blow up in their faces w/ Fultz being that good or just bad luck with the lottery.

a weird move. i sort of get it, but a weird move.

Yeah that is WAY more value than I anticipated for him.
