One team that's interested in free agent point guard Jrue Holdiay? The Dallas Mavericks. League sources say members of the Mavericks organization view Holiday as a free agent target this summer.
Not surprising. Don't see how they make the space for him unless Dirk is retiring.

"Interest" don't mean jack shite
A bunch of teams would like to have Holiday but it will take at least 100/4 to get him. Teams like Dallas and Nugs won't go that far. But sure, they will have "interest"

The Mavericks are a huge wild card simply because you have to think Dirk would play for the minimum if it got him the running mates to get back to the Finals. There's also the interesting Asik for Wesley Matthews trade that MM came up with.
Tim Duncan made $5 million in his last year, let's assume Dirk follows that example. Do the Asik/Matthews swap and stretch Asik. That gives them $38 million in cap space plus they have several near minimum deals that are team options they can cut. Give that $38 million to the Holiday brothers.
On the plus side if Asik was the way they got the cap space they needed to pull it off, you should have earned enough credit to get the Mavs to agree to a S&T. You are the one that gave them enough cap space to beat your $24 million ceiling after all. With a $25+ million trade exception you could probably target multiple starting caliber players.

Best guess at our competition and what is his best outside offeR?

Roster construction and putting the offseason pieces together is always the thing that fascinates me the most.
The NBA has such a byzantine system that its like the fricking Manhattan project to put all this shite together.

You really think Dirk would forego $20M just to add Jrue and Justin in one of his last seasons?
He would need a SERIOUS wink, wink, nudge, nudge front office gig waiting for him in retirement with massive perks.

The ONLY teams that can beat our offer are NYK, Philly, and BRooklyn
And I don't think Jrue will be atop any of their lists. If I were a betting man I'd say it comes down to us and Knicks

Jrue already knows the two offers he has from the Pelicans
Now, just seeing if he can find more. Doubt he will but it just takes one crazy team

If he isn't the other teams priority, do you think him exploring other options drags out into the 2nd or 3rd wave and reduces our replacement pool?

You think he doesn't already have that lined up?

Pels need to put the threat out of offer being pulled if Jrue takes his time. They need to have talks with a Lowry or CP3 and scare Jrue into making his decision

I do, but personally giving up $20M so the team can sign Jrue is crazy. Duncan was a strange cat, but at he least knew his teams would be competing for a championship. Don't see how you could say that with the Mavs.

I think Lowry is going to Philly.
I'm also curious as to how intriguing our team is to potential big free agents now. I feel like we could have a talk with Lowry and he'd actual listen, where as say last summer he wouldn't have even answered the call to even begin listening.
We still have a ways to go to lure a big free agent here. Win 50+ games this year and that would help a lot.

You could probably start a CP3 rumor the easiest, Stephen A has already gotten the ball rolling. But Lowry is probably the one where you could get the agent to play along. They need to put pressure on Toronto to pay up, CP3 will get his money wherever he goes.

I don't care if a guy actually signs. Like i said, we just need word that the guy is considering the Pels to create the leverage

Why not take a minimum salary the past several years then? Are you seriously asking why someone would want another $20M?

I can't see Dirk agreeing to that, since that doesn't make the Mavs contenders at all.

Mavs have a decision to made with Noel.
Assuming that he will ask starter money (type Deng &Mozgov) ~18-20 millions. Then I dont see them as a suitor.
BRK. NYK. PHILA. Agree with it. Teams like DEN have him on a long list (like at Orlando. Written on the board)
